Mizumi didn’t feel any better as she was driving to work. Therefore she decided to go to that restaurant again even though she went yesterday. It just wasn’t her day was it? She took a detour and had called in sick to work for the day. She couldn’t face her brother at work at all. She couldn’t face satoshi either if he came in to visit like he always does during his break. She arrived at the restaurant to see if he was inside. It was still closed of course. She then waited outside with her car for him.
Masaki came back from his jog to see a fine young lady in front of his restaurant. He went up to her. “miss sorry we’re closed.” Mizumi turned her head to meet eyes with masaki. “ah sorry it’s just me!” she waved awkwardly at greeting him. “eh? Ninomiya-san…but…why are you-“ “please…” she suddenly looked sad and bothered. “just call me mizumi…I don’t want to think about the name ninomiya right now…”
She played with her hand bag in her hands. Masaki smiled. “Understandable. Please come in. I’ll get you a drink.” He proceeded to opening the door as she followed. They went inside and she sat at the bar area. “what do you want to drink?” he asked her. She realized that he was sweaty and laughed at him. He was cute. A cup of tea would be nice.” He grinned at her. “Coming right up! Chamomile tea was always your favorite right?” He stopped realizing at what he just said.
He turned around to see a surprised mizumi. ‘this is bad…’ he said to himself. ‘jun said to be careful since she doesn’t remember anything…did I blow it?’ he stared at her searching through his mind at what to say to cover for his blunder. She suddenly laughed. “how did you know chamomile was my favorite?” Masaki sighed in relief. “Lucky guess I guess” he said nervously. But actually He has always known since their first meeting.
Mizumi took a whiff of her tea and smiled relaxed. She then looked around. “um…do you live here too? Or around here?” she asked. Masaki replied. “oh I live above the restaurant.” He said with a cheeky grin. Mizumi smiled and laugh. “oh do you? Can I please see your house?” Masaki suddenly became flustered. He hadn’t had the chance to clean his house yet…”um…well…you see…I haven’t had the chance to have a clean up day since work has been so busy so….” Mizumi laughed again. “it’s fine it’s fine. That’s understandable. Next time okay?” Masaki nodded. “un next time for sure.”
Mizumi glanced at her tea still steaming. “do you have someone you love masaki?” she asked him sadly. Taken back by such a question, he answered honestly. “I do.” She continued to stare at her tea. “I see…are you both still dating?” He took a while to answer. He wasn’t sure himself. “it’s a bit complicated at the moment, but I’m trying my best to reach her.” His heart began to ache. ‘Do you not hear my calls? Mizumi…’ mizumi sighed again. “have you ever thought of marrying her?” she looked at him.
He was taken back at the sadness in her eyes. They were still the same as the many times they have met throughout the many years. He wanted to reach out and touch her, reassure her everything will be okay. That she will be safe. In the end, he restrained himself and answered sadly looking away. “Every time I see her I do.”
“eehh is that so? How did you two meet?” he smiled at her and remembered the time. “We met in a beautiful meadow. She was picking flowers to put on the dinner table that night. She was a kind and graceful person always full of life. We started talking after that day. But as each day went by, the more we meet, the more I saw how tired she looked. How sad she was. I asked her ‘is everything okay?’ and she replied ‘un…everything is okay. I haven’t been sleeping well lately so I’m kinda tired.’ She then would smile at me with that kind smile.” A pang in his heart was felt.
Later I heard she got in an accident and had lost all of her memory of me. Everyday I would make a wish saying, “Please remember me. Please look for me in your endless lost memories.” Mizumi felt hot tears streaming down her face. He looked at her again and saw them. He was taken surprised just a bit. By her expression, he had hope that she remembered. “mizumi are you..” he reached out a hand to her but she backed away. She took out a hanker chief and wiped her eyes. “I’m sorry…I must get going. Thank you for the tea.” She left him a small tip. “As a thank you.” She smiled at him again, but the smile was sad.
When she left the restaurant, she got in her car and drove off with tears contining to flow down. ‘why are you crying?’ she said to herself. She couldn’t stop. It was as if her emotions had taken over her completely.
When he heard the car drove away, he slid down behind the counter and started crying. “Why are you don't this to us….” Jun then appeared before him in a robe. “I’m sorry masaki…” he said softly… Masaki saw quietly dried his tears. “it’s not your fault. He interfered when you tried taking her right?” Jun got on one knee kneeling to masaki. “I’ll continue to try my best no matter how long it takes.” Masaki nodded. “I know thank you my friend.” Masaki looked at his wristwatch. “You better get to work soon. Or your boss will be angry at you.” Jun got up and magically changed into his suit and tie. “It’s fine. He’s pretty laid back anyways. He’s not like any young person I have ever encountered.”
