I've been bored at work the past couple of days.
Title: First Meetings
Author: Rachel
Rating: PG
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Pairing: Gen, Zack/Aeris
Summary: How Aeris first encountered Zack. A/U from canon obviously.
Notes: Not my best work. This was written in two days at work on a peice of bright orange paper inbetween customers and pricing xmas items.
"Thank you very much! Have a beautiful day."
Aeris placed the one gil coin in her bag and handed the woman a pink flower. She loved seeing the happy face fo people when they saw flwoers. It gave them hope in life, that something as small, beautiful, and fragile as a flower could grow in the slums of Midgar; even if only in certain places. Aeris herself had even been referred to as a flower or the flower of Midgar, and even the Sunshine of the Slums. She took the compliments with modesty. All she watned was for the people to smile, if only for a few moments.
"Would you like a flower Sir?" she asked a man who had been standing nearby for sometime now and eyeing her general direction.
The man snorted. "Snot worth it. Why waste money on something stupid, when you need it for things like food and shelter."
"That's a good point Sir. THough I don't think it's something stupid. Flowers can bring joy to some people."
"Joy? Who can enjoy things when we can barely survive. There's no time for things like flowers when life is a daily struggle!"
"I'm sorry to hear that Sir. You must live a very sad life if you don't stop to enjoy the simple things every now and then."
"I think, young lady, you need a lesson in the important things in life." He began advancing on her, and she backed away.
"I--I apologize Sir. I didn't mean to aoffend you at all!"
He wasn't listening. He backed her up against a crumbling brick wall and snatched the bag from her arm knocking the basket of flowers upside down in the process. Flowers spilled around them and the man used the confusion to make a run for it.
"Stop! Please!" Aeris yelled futily. SHe ran after him. "Stop! Come back here! Someone hel, that man took my purse!" The people nearby looked, but quickly looked away. It was an unspoken rule in the slums of Midgar to remain uninvolved. In the back of her mind Aeris knew this and didn't blame them. THey were only looking out for themselves.
One man, however, stepped in front of the theif pushing him down, "I believe the lady asked you to stop." he said.
Aeris stopped behind them and caught her breath. She didn't recognize the man helping her, and Aeris knew a good deal of the people in te slums. He also had a clean and cut look about him, that anyone who lived down there for any amount of time usually lost. He must've been new to town.
"I'll ask you nicely first. Give the lady back her purse. If you don't, I might have to use force and I'd rather not."
"Who the hell do you think you are pretty boy!?" the theif snarled.
"I'm going to count. If you haven't let go of the bag by three I'll use force. And trust me, you won't like force." Aeris couldn't help but think that he sounded like a bad movie script. "One... Two... ... Last chance pal... Three."
The thief tried to fake to the side then escape back the way he came. The new guy wasn't about to let him get away. He grabbed his shoulder and turned him around, hauling the purse out of his hands as he'd done so. With another shove he sent him once more sprawling to the ground. The thief scrambled and ran. A few gil wasn't worth getting beaten up for.
"Here you go Miss." The man held out her purse and she took it from him carefully.
"Thank you. You know... you really didn't have to do all that. There's only about 20gil in there and he probably needed it more than I did."
"But you were running after him."
"Yes, because I wouldn't liked it too. But I do appreciate the gesture. It's rare to find someone who is willing to help out."
"Is it? I noticed no one was doing anything."
"We make our own laws down here." She sighed and glanced back toward her fallen flowers, "Looks like I'm finished for the day. Can I treat you to dinner or something?"
She smiled brightly at him and he found he couldnt' say no. Seh took him to a small family owned place near the edge of sector 5. There she found out that his name was Zack Fair and that he was indeed new in town. He'd come from a small place called Gongaga. Gongaga was too quiet for him so now here he was in Midgar and in Aeris' life.
I need Final Fantasy icons...
