Gundam Cafe on a Friday and Stroll around Akiba

May 19, 2010 03:46

Finally I have some time to post up the pictures I took on Friday.

First up the Gundam Cafe in Akihabara.  It's actually really easy to find.  Just get off the train from the Yamanote Line and take Platform 00.00000 on the CelestialBeing Line and it'll be the first stop past Earth.
Ok, I kid.
It's the same exit as the UDX building/Vie de France/Excelsior Cafe/Victorian Pub.  Or if none of those ring a bell, maybe you remember where the Spice World and Beck's Hamburger shop used to be. Or was that Becker's.  I forget.  Or if you have no clue, try and find the Guide Maids outside the station to help you out.  They have maps!! ^o^

Look I've arrived!

Since it was late on a Friday afternoon, the wait wasn't so bad.  After taking a few pictures and yukiichigo  making friends with the native Akiba drivers as they kindly honk their horns before nearly running her over, we stood in line and waited our turn to board the ship.

We waited.....

and waited...

Touched the building...

Then waited some more....and then...
........waited some more.
Then finally............phew....after 4 hours.........the wait was over.
....ok, more like 15 minutes.  Who knows we were very chatty in line, as we discussed the uniforms of the staff and checked out the menu on the electronic screen near the counter.

One of the first things you see as you walk into the cafe.

The hostess escorted us to our table which happened to be right below the TV screen which was playing Gundam Unicorn and the new 00 movie trailers on loop.  After all that waiting and nearly becoming road kill, we had worked up an appetite.  It was time to order food!
To order food, you get to stand in line again...this time at the counter near the bar.  You can see a menu with featured items on an electronic screen above the counter but there is a menu with more options at the actual counter.  The cheapest item on the menu is about 380 yen or 480 yen...I forget.  And of course, there are many items with Gundam-themed names.

I ordered a royal milk tea (boring I know. but, I'm not a fan of coffee).  I also got a white cream pasta served with hamburg.  It had a special name, too.  But I forget it now.><

Here it is!  It was very yummy and I recommend it! Wonder if Lockon ate this!

After eating such a great meal, perhaps you'll have the urge to drop your kiddies at the pool.
Well you're in luck!  There are two excellent vicinities with which you can choose from.  That is..as long as you're a girl.
Yes, what cafe is complete without a restroom.  If you're a girl, you can use the Zaku (Girl's) restroom and if there's no wait for the Gundam (Boy's) restroom, you can use that one, too.

Here's a pic of me in the Zaku restroom!

The restrooms are really nice and special, too.  But I'll have to explain more in another post about them. as I have so many pictures of the inside.

Before we left the cafe, we took one final look around.  The English on the wall is very cool!

Well, that was fun!
But while we were in Akihabara, we decided to walk around a bit and take in the breathtaking scenery that is used computer parts, maids holding teddy bears in one hand while passing out fliers with the other, and blonde men dressed as bartenders throwing trash cans and vending machines at people.  Ok, so maybe we were in the wrong neighborhood for that last one.

Oh, look after walking around for a few minutes I've already ran into the national treasure that is VOCALOID's Hatsune Miku.  Of course, me, I'm more partial to Kaito and the twins but what can I say, I wasn't on Otome Road anymore.

Though already quite worn out...me, practicing my car modeling skills.

Across the street, I saw some guys who seemed to appreciate girls and their own vehicles.
Yes, so much so...that they drove motorcycles with girls on them.
The 2-D kind that is..
I decided to make friends with them.

My newly found kewl-otaku biker friends.

We were getting along so well...but then I think it was time for K-ON! or something to come on TV.
And they suddenly forgot I was there...

That's ok. If Drrr!! is any indication, Ikebukuro guys are better anyway.hahaha:p

We hit the streets again.
We came upon a wonderous sight! A huge group of people lined against the wall of an electronic store and sitting and standing all around the nearby sidewalk with their full attention on the screens of their DSes.

Actually this was very reminiscent of that time in Durarara!! when all the Dollars were told to look at their keitai screens, then they'd know that anyone not looking at their keitai or wondering what was going on, wasn't a Dollar.

Well I wanted in! So I pulled out my DS to blend in.

Ah~! Now, that's better! Now I feel like I belong.
Not quite sure what they were playing tho, since it was taking forever to pick up something on my DS.
I'm guessing that maybe it was the new Dragon Quest game but I'm not sure.

Oh, there's so much more to my adventure to tell but it's nearly 4am here. So I'm gonna hit the hay for now!! Nite Nite!
