Did anyone watch Ugly Betty last night?
I saw it and it was great! It's a series loosely base on the uber-popular Colombian telenovela, Betty La Fea.
They changed a lot of things in the American version but the general idea still remains.
I was really happy with the cast. Tho, initially, I was disappointed that Daniel (Armando's role) was not played by a hispanic. It would've been a great oppurtunity to see a latino actor in a hot leading role as Daniel, after all.
But, after watching the show, I was pleased to see that America Ferrera (Betty) has really great chemistry with Eric Mabius (Daniel).
Another interesting tidbit from the pilot, is Salma Hayek who produces the show also makes an appearance. She plays the lead actress in a telenovela that Betty's family likes to watch. The telenovela mocks the corny plots and bad acting that is commonly seen in telenovelas. And as a former avid telenovela watcher...the scenes where the family is glued to this telenovela amuse me.
I also have to note that I think Vanessa Williams is doing a great job in her role. Wow, she's really sexy for her age.
And altho, her role was short, I liked Fabia. :p
I also like the fashion in the show. The clothes the receptionist wears as well as what Daniel's one night stand wore were cute.
Umm...as for Betty...err...yeah nice poncho.
It'll be interesting to see where this series will go. Especially, since I'm surprised that Daniel's already acting nice to her after the end of ep. 1. In the original telenovela...it took many eps. before he was genuinely nice to Betty. And since Daniel went through all the trouble of rehiring Betty, it seems kinda strange if he changes and starts acting mean to her again...unless of course, it's to throw his enemies off.
Another thing is, I wonder how the plot is gonna unfold up to the end of the season. In telenovelas, the series don't last as long as American dramas do...so if the series is a hit, I wonder how they'll think of ways to extend it.
Hmm..well, very interesting! Can't wait till next week's episode!
