Title: Falling Up
Author: mizu_from_kumo, Me
Recipient: lisacreature
Genre: drama, angst, and romance of course
Pairings: USxUK and others appear later just a little. Some ending FrUK in this chapter
Rating/Warnings: T, for the darkness that plagues my writing and cursing, oh and mpreg! AUness as well
Summary: Leaving Francis was the best thing he ever did, even if it had no common sense. He was not going to raise his daughter there, but were the streets much better? The world is always against him.
Notes: Figured I should get this up now.  My brother's birthday is tomorrow and I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do anything.  Oh, and I possibly might create a side Franada story or something because I have to many idea's in my head.  There needs to be a fan fiction scholarship!  If anything the will probably happen around New Years, when I will once again have no time.  Just thought lisacreature sound know.  XD

Alfred’s idea of a celebration dinner is not in the least bit flattering or all out, but it was…charming to a point. Microwavable Ramen didn’t exactly scream “Yeah, you got a job!” Then again neither did Coke-a-cola, or chips. Alfred’s brother’s, Matthew’s, maple cookie things though was rather nice, and maybe the box of Girl Scout cookies Alfred found in the freezer. Other than that, it was just a rag-tag “hooray!”

Still Arthur was touched, and Alfred was ecstatic, but not in a way that could be miss read as Arthur leaving soon. Alfred was clearly happy Arthur was back in the working force, meaning he wouldn’t have to feel so dependent.

“Oh my God, do you seriously make that many faces?” Alfred asked, causing Arthur to look over at him and glare. He was not making that many faces as he feed Emma, he knew that much.

“No, I don’t,” Arthur snapped, turning back to the small jar to scoop out some more of the food.

“Oh, but it’s so cute Artie,” Alfred said regardless, “Emma just looks at you like your crazy.” Arthur growled, trying not to get Emma to open her mouth by opening his own. “No, Artie seriously, it’s adorable.”

Arthur whipped around, pointing the spoon at Alfred and causing the “peas and carrots” to fling itself at Alfred. Suddenly every bit of rage and seriousness Arthur was going to tell Alfred off with was gone. Emma erupted into her now formed laughed, which tickled Arthur into his own. Alfred wiped the “peas and carrots” off his face, smiling as he did do so.

“I say, they’re all pretty darn cute,” Alfred said with a winning smile as he got up from the couch, and collecting their “dishes”.

Arthur blushed and turning his attention back to feeding Emma who had run out of laughter and was watching Alfred with complete interest. She turned back to Arthur, before the small Christmas tree caught her attention. Arthur smiled before scooping more of her food and trying to get her to eat it.
----  ----  ----
Emma was out like a light in no time after Arthur started to calmly play with her after Alfred. Arthur couldn’t help but smile, Alfred really knew how to wear kids out. Of course, maybe Arthur’s calm humming had helped the young girl drift off. Alfred stretched in his chair at the kitchen table as he sighed.

Arthur couldn’t help but smile. He picked up his sleeping daughter, catching her by surprise in her sleep and causing some movement. He placed her head on his shoulder and worked his way to his feet, keeping his hands on Emma to make sure she didn’t shift without him planning it.

It didn’t take Alfred long to notice Arthur’s movement. He hopped up himself, “She asleep already?” He chuckled out a bit. Arthur nodded softly as Alfred advanced. “Lucky little thing, I wish I could do that.”

“You do,” Arthur snapped a bit, causing the younger to smile.

“Yeah, but that’s when I’m exhausted.” Alfred said, Arthur disagreed, but he wasn’t really in the mood to argue.

They stood there for a while, before Arthur huffed, looking away. Alfred let out a chuckled and rocked on his feet. It seemed like he wanted to say something, yet he didn’t, or wasn’t sure how too. Arthur wasn’t sure, and he wasn’t going to force it out of Alfred. Of course, Alfred didn’t notice the awkwardness he had filled the room with.

Arthur took a step towards his room, he really should put Emma to bed. However, Alfred stopped him. He grabbed Arthur by his arm, which sent a cold finger to run along Arthur’s back. It was soft, and Arthur calmed down quickly, it was only Alfred. Maybe he really did want to tell him something, and he figured out how.

“Alfred, is everything okay?” Arthur asked.

Their eyes meet when Alfred heard him. He smiled; while his other hand gripped Arthur’s other arm and pulled him closer. For some reason his eye contact was hypnotizing, Arthur keep looking up at him. Then he drew closer, and it was almost intoxicating. Then-Arthur went stiff and his eyes widened, while Alfred snapped closed. The grip on Emma tightened.

Was Alfred…kissing him?

It wasn’t anything though, lips on lips, but Arthur was freaking out in his head. Sure he had kissed Francis but he was hormonal…or a bit drunk. Alfred wasn’t even forcing his way through, but there was a source of terror Arthur could never rid of.

Alfred withdrew and let his hold on Arthur drop, while Arthur quickly looked at the floor. “I should put Emma to bed,” Arthur said, peeking up at Alfred.

“Uh…yeah,” Alfred said weakly, a fake sort of smile wandering up to his mouth, however something was shattering in his eyes.

Arthur fleeted to his room after that. He quickly set Emma in her bed and plopping down on his own, staring up at the ceiling. His stupid fears were getting in the way, sure Alfred acted weird, but he hadn’t exactly treated Arthur like others had. Alfred actually looked broken when Arthur had denied him…no…yes that was the right word. Francis usually looked frustrated.

His vision became blurry, but Arthur did nothing to attempt to stop it. Did Alfred care so much that it possibly turned into love? Judging by the way he looked at Arthur’s fear of past events, it was probably a damn good guess.

He screwed up, and he has to fix it, Alfred’s been so good to him.

Taking a breath of crappy confidence, Arthur started out towards the living room, to find Alfred back at his work at the kitchen table. He wiped his eyes in his sleeve before he advanced. Alfred was tapping his pencil on the edge of his book, with no energy to do anything. It didn’t take him long to notice Arthur coming towards him.

“Arthur, I’m sorry, I didn’t me-”

“Belt up, git.” Arthur snapped, causing Alfred to raise an eyebrow but become quiet quickly.

“Arthur-” Arthur had Alfred by the collar of his shirt, before he brought his lips to Alfred’s without warning.
It was Alfred turn to freeze and realize what was going on. He hadn’t taken him long, seeing as how he responded by getting up and having his hands take Arthur’s face. The kiss didn’t turn into much, but it was still enough.
It was nice to see Alfred smile like an idiot for once.

----  ----  ----Christmas come around with amazing speed. Sure Alfred’s exams had been a bit of a warning and all the Christmas parties as well. However no one ever grasped it till it was Christmas Eve.

Alfred was ready to stay up till midnight and open presents like he had done back home, but fell asleep in no time on the couch. Emma was not to different, ogling at the tree and having Arthur hum his lullaby, and a few stray Christmas songs he remembered from his childhood. Arthur let the two sleep, sheltering Emma in a nest of pillows.

He called his mother in England, when he figured it was a good time to call her. Knowing Peter he had woken her up and seven in the morning, and got his brothers who came for Christmas up as well. It was only two of them, seeing as how Patrick had business in Ireland, and Arthur was in America. The family was happy to hear from him, and Peter seemed content with his gift.

It was satisfying to chat with them, and he promised to visit as soon as he could. Moving Alfred’s feet a bit, he came to rest on the couch and flicked on the TV, only to drift off into the world of sleep. He didn’t mind, he could only watch so many corny Christmas movies that didn’t make any sense.

Arthur was woken up by Alfred shaking him lightly and a constant tapping on his feet. That and there was a sort of chant of “Arthur” and “Mu-mu” (Emma had to add her own bit). It wasn’t a Christmas morning he was planning on waking up to, but it was fine with him. There’s nothing wrong with them all sleeping in the living room on Christmas Eve.

Emma enjoyed opening her presents. Alfred liked his hamburger earmuffs and the new game Arthur had gotten. Arthur rather enjoyed that thank you kiss, though he really wished Alfred would take off his hamburger earmuffs when he did.

“Here,” Alfred said holding out a box for him too, “Santa came for you to.”

Arthur blinked, and took the box. He opened it slowly, gasping a bit as he removed all the paper with Emma’s help. “Alfred, you didn’t have to,” Arthur said far too shocked to do anything else but stare at the box or Alfred.

“Well, I don’t think you have many pictures of Emma.” Alfred said with a shrug. “And I’m sure your family would love pictures.” Alfred said with a smile.

Arthur was at a lost for words. “Thank you, Alfred,” He said softly when he got his mouth to work, “for everything.”

Alfred just beamed, looking like a complete idiot with those earmuffs. A complete idiot that Arthur loved.

AN: So I kinda feel like I through the relationship together in one and a half chapters, but I think it is reasonably okay the way it turned out.  I liked focusing on Arthur's crappy life, and I think the two are stubborn any way.  Arthur probably ignored the fact that he might actually want Alfred to love him.  That and I can totally see Arthur being to afraid to get into a relationship with others.  Alfred just an airhead so you figure out why it took him so long.

Oh, and Alfred got Arthur a camera, don't ask me what type, because my knowledge of camera's spans to any how they work and the fact that they know how touch screen you can doodle on.  It's rather fun I will say that.  And yes there are actually hamburger earmuffs, I got some for my friend who cosplays as America.  Sadly I can see America wearing them as well.  -is in love with Hot Topic-

Alfred celebration did is probably what a college student diet consists of.  Sadly that's probably be reality for me soon, but I don't mind, as long as I can find Girl Scout cookies in my freezer.  I will forever support those cookies.  Hope you liked this lisacreature, there's just the epilogue and the possible side stories that I will do just for fun.  I will know more when I post the last part of this story.
