I started out as an animu (read: anime) fangirl, with Chobits as my first official animu. I've grown out of it somehow, and I blame J-Pop. I became more or less a bit anti-animu, especially for the 'super-awesome-large-as-hell-fandomness' ones. Suzumiya Haruhi and Code Geass might be the first thing I can name of. Please do not ask why I hate them, I just do. I watch the whole 24 episode of the former and fell asleep for most of the time, and never had a glance of the latter except to watch the ED and OP as it featured my favorite bands, namely Jinn and ALI PROJECT.
Well. I do managed to watch a few animu whenever one successfully interested me for many reasons. The main reason for these two I'm about to rant about is the manga.
Pani Poni Dash!
Genre : Random, Parody, Comedy, Girls
Pani Poni is the manga I've discovered during my decidedly brief fangirlness of manga scanlations. I was bound to discover the animu version too sometime later, and I fell in love with it almost instantly I think. This animu gives you the almost cliched story of a genius 11 year old who is also the homeroom teacher of a class of weird female students. If anything, think of a more cheerful and colorful version of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.
To most, this animu would be either a hit or a miss. A flood of Japanese cultural references, escpecially the animu, you'd have to stand by on the pause button to catch it all, also an extensive knowledge of them to get it. Well, that might be overrated. I never watch too much animu and I get almost 75% of them. Because this is one of that random animu, each episode might not have any relation to the next. Each episode tackles different randomness like an influenza outbreak, magical girl dilemma, aliens...that kind of stuff. A direct similarity to Excel Saga, another animu I am very much in love with.
What I love so much of this animu might be the crazy students of Momotsuki High. I can not explain their crazyness to do them justice, so I'd just let you watch the English trailer instead. Just so you know, the English dub of PPD is as awesome as the original dub.

THAT and the very catchy OP and ED theme just sold me, and I was never the one to have interest in seiyuu-featured songs.
The animu lasted for 26 episodes, and I crave for moar.. I hope SHAFT would do another season for this animu. They can do yet another season for Zetsubou Sensei, I see no problem for them to make one for PPD too.. except that perhaps it would not do too well. It is almost the exact copy of Zetsubou Sensei.
Just so you know, I love Himeko the spazz and Serizawa the cosplay maniac/genius<3
Girls' High / High School Girls / 女子高生 (Joshikosei)
Genre : Comedy, Girls go crazy, Slapstic
Found this gem of a comedy from the manga of which I desperately want to own but when I was going to buy them, the bookstore had already returned it for the lack of purchase I think. HSG is the usual antics of girls' issues like periods, sex, love, unwanted bodily hair... the usuals.
HSG introduces you to the academically genius but not that bright Eriko, and her BFFs and their life in an all girls high school. Despite the dreamy elegance of an all girls school alike of Maria-sama ga Miteru, HSG gives you the almost realisitic view. A girl might relate this manga easily.
When I found out this manga had an animu, I was excited and lurk almost everywhere to watch them. When I did, I was more or less a bit disappointed. You see, the manga was made specially for the female audience at least IMO, with more focus on the crazy issues and the fun of it. The animu on the other hand is more for the male audience with more panchira and ecchi situations that I can handle.
The jokes might be a bit forced on some scenes though it was so brilliant in the manga, but at least the seiyuu made a great work on bringing the charms of the characters. The animu also brings a few surprises like, I never knew Yuma referred herself as the third person view. Another failure of the animu would be the lack of the manga adaptations. Surely it would be better if it have more of Momoka, and Yuma's elder sister, also the exams scenes.
I would recommend this animu if you're into something light and LOL. And I would definitely recommend the manga a lot more if you want serious LOLness.
Also, this is where I discovered meg rock.
