Unnerving focus took over as I looked at Bella one more time. The one moment, in the back of my mind, that I had relished over a year ago was now the moment I needed to save her. Swallowing once hard, I brushed my lips against her throat.

I released some of my venom and then swept my tongue across the opening. I had been told by Carlisle that our venom acted as a sealant in many ways. Over and over, I took to her wrists, the insides of her elbows and watched cautiously as I heard her heart begin to congeal from the poison overtaking her system.
