Deathly Hallows Review

Being as I am a person who has NEVER READ the series and only watched the movies, this is where I stand on the film this evening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I:

OK, so overall, the movie was fantastically-done. Like, as in the art direction and special-effects. I was blown away by the quality and the overall feel of the movie. My favorite part had to be the story-telling the Deathly Hallows brothers. The art department surely needs awards for this!

As far as storyline goes, I really can't go into much detail because I have nothing to go on. I admit I had to sneak and ask questions several times. I wasn't sure what was going on at this point (I've forgotten parts from The Half-Blood Prince) but I got the gist soon enough. I felt sorry for Harry, I really did, but I think I was sad the most when A) George lost his ear, B) Ron got his arm split open (broken, out-of-socket or whatever) and lastly, when Dobby died.

Let's just say this: I've tried to read the books once, and didn't care for them. But this movie (which seemed to end on a nice 'pause' area), makes me want to try to read the novels. mrscastielftw is going to lend them to me, so thanks, bb!

I liked bits of it, too, that lightened up the mood at times, Anything (well, almost everything) with Ron Weasley was awesome. The part with Ron fretting over his 'wife' in the Ministry of Magic? ADORKABLE. Ron helping to save Harry by destroying the locket? BAMFTASTIC (save for the sequence where Ron thinks he sees Harry and Hermione making love. ew, no. Ron, you know Hermione only has eyes for you!)

Oh, bonus points: Hermione and I share the same middle name. Woo!

For those who do know their Harry Potter canon, why did Hermione wipe her existence from her parents' minds? To save them from heartache or to protect them from Voldemort? If Harry keeps losing or breaking his wand, how in the world can he kill Voldy without his own wand?

Overall, I've decided to try and read these books again. Wish me luck!
