triumph. sort of.

I reached the part of the book where I can start putting stuff back into TRUTHSEEKER again. The place where I started to do that was, in the original manuscript, page 42. It’s page 85 now. A whole chapter went back in with almost no revisions, which was exciting. I have no idea how this whole middle section will end up working, at this point. It’ll ( Read more... )

I, personally, would like Anna-Marie Adler, as that almost seems more likely to me as a concession.

And Picard is dumb, even if I'd alwways sort of grumbled about Remy's last name. I imagined it as something he'd given to himself as a name and not actually his name at all. (And yeah, that made me chuckle with his dad...)

Where's the Adler from?

*laughs* Yes, actually, it seems more like a name he'd give himself than a real last name, but I think Picard is worse, under the circumstances. :)

Irene Adler was Destiny. Given how angry she and Raven get with each other... I've always thought that would be more likely.

Oh! Right! Of course.

Okay, yes. I'm with you on this. Rogue's real name from here on out is Anna-Marie Adler. So mote it be, and if I ever get to write the X-Men... :)

*chuckles*

Did you see in X-men legacy where Xavier finally gave her control of her powers? There seems to be really little talk about that for something so huge.

And per Wiki: "After this, it is revealed that Rogue's powers never truly developed past their initial "nascent" stage, which was the reason why her powers never functioned properly. The Professor, now aware of this fact, uses his telepathy to tear down the mental walls that kept Rogue's powers from developing (the walls were created as a side effect every time she absorbed other people starting with Cody, and even more so with Ms. Marvel), as well as removing the mental echo of Mystique. Finally Rogue kisses Gambit, with no ill side effect, revealing that she is in control of her absorption power."

...I'm torn. On the one hand, I think "didn't develop past the nascent stage" is sort of stupid. On the other, I can kind of buy that it's true, that absorbing Cody fucked her right up, a la Jean getting fucked up by her powers awakening when her best friend got smashed by a car. On the third, I've been thinking for YEARS that goddamned Xavier should fix Rogue's poor head and let her have a life, so I can't be against it...

Yeah. It actually makes sense and bothers me that it took so LONG because people didn't want to let go of the plot possibilities. Then again, I'd then write her as a woman who would be both gun shy and obscenely eager about the physicality her new control could bring.

I'm sure that Cody and Carol and everyone else who she absorbed who hated her in her head likely caused all sorts of damage that just made it harder.

Yeah. If I were Rogue with control I would...boy. Man. In love with Gambit or not, there's a whoooooooole big field out there to play. But at the same time the handful of time she's had control of some sort she's been *extremely* shy about actually making physical contact. A lifetime of isolation would do that to you. And I don't think the plot possibilities are /lessened/ by giving her control. On the contrary...

Yeah.

Well, I think the shyness comes from it being temporary and, well, having been cut off from it for so very long. I can see where even if she has control, she'd be leery of it as well as wanting to indulge. A nice mix of desire and fear and... Hrmmmm.

And poor Remy over there beating his head on the wall because now he can have the femme and she's off tomcatting around like he's been doing HIS WHOLE LIFE. a little hard to resent the girl for wanting that...
