My car broke down on the 25th, and I spent $450 to get it fixed- water pump issue. When I got it back, I realized my air conditioning didn't work. Goody. I called the car repair place (which is a great place- I love them) and scheduled an appointment for 1 PM that Saturday (yesterday).
Around 12:30 I get in my car, and turn on the engine. It's shuddering really bad, and almost dies on me. Odd, but remembered my car's been doing that when I get going in the morning, because the engine's cold. That would make sense at 6 AM- not when it's 70+ outside! I get to the bottom of the hill out of the complex, and the engine totally dies. Wonderful. I start it up again, and the car's shuddering uncontrollably, stopping only when I'm revving the engine. Something's squealing under the hood, and I'm freaking out. I call the repair shop, saying I'm on my way, but am going to be late- I'm literally driving at not much more than idle- maybe 5 miles an hour. Finally make it into the shop, and tell them I don't want the AC fixed right now- get a diagnostic on the car!!
They find out it's the timing belt (which is another long story) and would cost about $300 for labor and parts to get it fixed. That means I'm now up to $750 in just over 2 weeks on a car with over 140,000 miles, and I'm looking at new cars already. I had done a LOT of research on cars I liked, even test-drove one that I really enjoyed, and was saving up as much money as possible to make a good down payment on it. This dealership was literally a block away from the repair shop, so I had the repair people hang on, walked over to the dealership, found out if my car was still available, and BOUGHT IT! :) It's a 2006 Toyota Corolla LE, 4-door, gray (Chris calls it gunmetal gray), automatic, and I LOVE it!
Now I had to figure out what to do with my old car. Turns out the receptionist really liked my car, didn't mind that it's a mess right now, and so I'm selling it to her! We're going through the paperwork on Tuesday, and the shop is allowing me to keep the car there until then.
What a weekend! It's been nice though- stressful, but also got a LOT of schoolwork done, and Chris somehow magically got me to watch two Mystery Science Theater movies (okay, 1 and a half- I slept through part of it)- I normally can't sit still that long!
Okay, to bed I go! I've been battling a bug for about a week (yeah, totally threw up in 5th period on Wednesday- THAT was fun), so I need my rest!
Oh yeah- I'll be in Seattle from the 22nd to the 27th of December. My parents really want me to spend some time with them, but I'm also dying to see everyone as well. Let me know your schedules as soon as you know them, and let's get together (yeah yeah yeah).
