Marius pulled the cloth tighter around his shoulders, every muscle aching and protesting even as he sat in the same chair he always had done when this place was full of noise, bustle, excited chatterings, drinking and dreams; it was all gone now, they were all gone. His eyes fell onto the floor, the glass he had thrown, shattered, shimmering in the half-light of the candle and when he looked it was not himself reflected back but them; the poet, the doctor, the cynic, the God, a shock of blonde hair, blue eyes and a dream that would never now come true.
