Holiday Reading

Just back from my week-long vacation in Seattle, WA (Lake Stevens really) and had FAB time with Mom shopping etc. Also managed to read the following while away relaxing:

"The Parrot Who Owns Me" by Joanna Burger
"The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" by Mary Ann Shaffer and Anne Barrows
"Cockatiels at Seven" by Donna Andrews and
"Six Geese A-Slaying" also by Donna Andrews

The first is a great non-fiction by renowned ornithologist Joanna Burger and is about the relationship she has with her red-lured amazon parrot, Tiko, and also partly about bird behaviors in the wild etc. v.good read.

The second is historical fiction written in epistolary about post WWII England specifically on the Channel Island of Guernsey. Through the many letters that comprise the book the audience learns about the lives of the characters during the German occupation of Guernsey during the war. It is a beautifully written story and I highly recommend it to all.

The third and fourth are just fun murder mysteries revolving around protagonist Meg Langslow (a blacksmith) and her eccentric family. They both take place in Caerphilly, Virginia (rural Northern VA). Both books read fast and are a fun diversion from reality.
