If you're reading this and live in the San Diego area--or will be visiting that area around Thanksgiving time--have I got a pie for you! :-)
I'm one of the team of volunteers helping to sell pies to support Mama's Kitchen as we approach Thanksgiving. For those unfamiliar with this great organization, Mama's Kitchen is a
private non-profit program that delivers free, nutritious meals to persons with HIV/AIDS and others who are too debilitated from illness to cook for themselves.
For Mama's Pie in the Sky fundraiser, a bunch of local restauranteurs have signed up to bake great pies; we volunteers take orders for them between now and November 15th; and the day before Thanksgiving, you the order-placers go to any of dozens of San Diego area pick-up locations to get your fresh-baked gourmet pies just in time for Thanksgiving. (Alas, we can't ship pies out of town. Maybe next year ... :-) )
There are four varieties of pie available: apple, pumpkin, pecan, and diabetic-safe (sugarless) apple--all 9" diameter gourmet-quality pies. The "cost" is $20 each--$15 of that is a tax-deductable contribution direct to Mama's to feed people. Plus you get a delicious pie!
I'll be carrying pie order blanks with me wherever I go for the next few weeks. Or drop me an email to rendezvous with me for pie-order purposes. Or, if you prefer, you can order pies online right here:
