Pairings I Love, others I just don't

Since I can't seem to chop down the drabble I started to the necessary wordcount, I decided to do a meme instead.

Pairings I Love, others I just don't like so much

1. The pairing you first fell in love with:
Easy, easy. Harry/Draco. As if anyone didn’t know this already;)

2. The pairing you never expected to love as much as you do now:
Ron/Draco. I was never a Ron fan until I got into fandom and then he wormed his freckled arse into my heart.

3. The pairing everyone else loves that you don't:
Harry/Snape. I actually read more Snarry fics than H/D when I first fell into fandom, but I never embraced the pairing. And now, over time, I like them less and less. Part of it is, I just can’t see Harry wanting to have sex with Snape and Alan Rickman aside, I don’t find Snape all that sexy. Now, I don’t find Remus all that sexy either but I don’t mind reading Snape paired with him because then they can be unsexy together. And my mind is very strange.

4. The pairing you love that everyone else hates:
I think love and hate are pretty strong words for this question. For example, I like Harry/Ron fics, which may be unusual for a H/D shipper, but that pairing certainly has a following. And even though I don’t seek out R/Hr fics, I don’t mind them as a pairing. Done well, they can be rather cute. I also don’t mind reading an occasional Lucius/Draco fic or even a fic with Percy in it.

5. The pairing you used to love but don't any longer:
Sirius/Remus. This dawned on me a few months ago when I was reading a fluffy Grimmauld Place/OotP era fic. I don’t see Sirius/Remus having a happy relationship with the clues JKR gives us about Sirius’ frame of mind while living there: the drinking alone, lashing out, etc. I give you that they may have had a bittersweet or a dysfunctional relationship, but not a happy one. Even back at school, I don’t really see it. If anything, I think Sirius was in love with James, if you go with the subtext.

And maybe that is why I don’t like the pairing as much anymore. So much time is spent on subtext to justify this pairing’s existence and then there’s the fact that Sirius is dead which limits the timelines these fics can occur. There are still some well-written S/R fics that I like, but I rarely read new ones anymore.

Other than that, both my kids are sick, I feel like I’m coming down with something, the weather outside is truly frightful - It’s raining and snowing! Yuck.
