I wasn't able to attend Obama's victory rally in Grant Park, but I did take my camera with me as I documented my election day.
The day begins standing in line to vote. The races in Illinois were largely uncontested and Obama, being a Chicago native, was a shoe-in to win, so I wasn't expecting huge lines. Still, it took me about 30 minutes to get to the voting booth.
8:10am
I vote in a fire station, which is always a fun place to visit.
Boots at the ready! They're left by the trucks, so they can be slipped on a moment's notice.
Shop window.
Since I couldn't go to the rally, I decided to spend my lunch hour checking out the preparations in Grant Park. There I saw...
Police barricades! Lots and lots of them.
Satellite trucks! Lots of those too.
The foreign media!
Mayor Richard M. Daley!
Fan artists!
And pretty autumn foliage!
When I saw this sign and noted that is said Obama Presidential Rally, I was worried that that might jinx Obama's victory, but the scent of change was in the air. The mood electric.
Even she could feel it.
Everything seemed a little extra shiny today.
Yes, we can.
Yes, we can.
Yes.
