This was originally intended for last month's "Narcissa" challenge on
hd100, and quite honestly it's been vexing me ever since (Originally I was trying for 100 words, then 200, and... *gah* I'm giving up and just posting the damn thing.)
BTW, I'm sitting outside on my deck as I'm posting this, and it's quite lovely.
Title: Mummy Dearest
Word count: 221
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Prompt: Narcissa (
hd100)
Rating: G
Her flawless skin barely wrinkled the day her son broke off his engagement to Miss Parkinson. It was a pity to be sure, but there would always be other girls.
Likewise, she kept her cool when Draco's betrothed came to her in tears days before their wedding. "I think I've made a mistake," Astoria had cried.
"Nonsense," was Narcissa's quick reply, and she patted the poor girl on the head and sent her on her way. Such jitters were to be expected. They were a good match. She approved.
Nor did she wring her jeweled hands when the rumors started. Marriage was a tricky business, as she knew all too well. If her son engaged in certain… proclivities on the side, far be it for her to interfere as long as there would be an heir.
And it was with her grandson she consoled herself on the day Draco announced his divorce. Draco, she reminded herself, was still young. He could marry again.
And he did.
Except her son's spouse wasn't quite who she had envisioned.
"Mum, you're… blushing."
Narcissa blotted her forehead with the back of her hand. "I'm quite all right," she lied before falling in a dead faint at her son-in-law's feet.
"That went well," remarked Harry, squeezing his new husband's hand.
"Better than I expected," Draco agreed.
Lest I forget, Happy Birthday, Draco!!
