More DH thoughts

What in the name of Merlin's saggy left ***

So I've been listening to audio version of DH while at work, and I've come to the conclusion that Ron is my favorite character in the book. I know that's an odd thing to admit to flist full of Harry/Draco shippers, but he cracks me up. And he's so adorably besotted by Hermione too. There's the scene (I'm on chapter 6, btw) where Hermione bursts into tears about Moody, and he hastily grabs his "revolting-looking" handkerchief, and it's still smoking from his cleaning spell when he hands it to her, and she's all "er, thanks, Ron." So cute. Yet, he still capable of calling Harry out on his shit.

I know, I mentioned this sentence before when I did my first read through of the books, but...

He forced himself to look directly into (Molly's) eyes, noticing… they were precisely the same shade as Ginny's.

If I wasn't already a hater of the Harry/Ginny relationship in the books, this would have squicked me right over the edge.

I never believed the hero has to have a love interest for an epic story like HP to be successful, but I really wish JKR put as much thought into writing Harry's relationship with Ginny as she did with Ron and Hermione's. At least with Harry and Cho, JKR managed to mine some of the angst typical with teen romances, but the Ginny relationship just seemed so blah and uninspired. We hardly got a chance to see them together, and then JKR throws in lines like the one I quoted above, and I'm almost repulsed. Heh.

I'm going to put aside my Harry/Draco and fanfic leanings as I say this. I never  liked Harry/Ginny, but I can't help wishing there was more I could grab onto as a reader or even as a former teenager who had a fair share of crushes of her own. So I could genuinely be happy for Harry by the time the epilogue rolls around instead of thinking at least he got the family he always wanted. That's something, I suppose.
