Hello. Welcome to fantasy Isl... whoop. mizBean's journal. For those of you who don't know, there is a
Fandom Friending Frenzy going on in
mctabby's journal. I highly recommend you wiggle your toes and jump right in. It's a great place to meet like minded fans.
So grab a cup of coffee, pull up chair and let's talk slash or whatever.
For the uninitiated, here is a little
mizBean 101
A brief history:
mizbean was always been prone to fangirly tendencies. She dates this back to her high school years when she drew pictures and wrote scary stalkerish stories about Sting. She'd rather not talk about the shrine she created to him on her bedroom wall or the Jim Morrison one that decorated her closet door. She thanks God that Livejournal didn't exist back then and that her musings stayed in her spiral notebook where they belonged.
Regardless of these tendencies, it wasn't until 2003 that mizbean joined an official online fandom. She dates this to sometime in July of that year when she finished Order of the Phoenix and immediately felt bereft. Neither her family, nor her RL friends were any help in this regard as even if they liked Harry Potter, they just didn't like it that much.
A quick google search later, mizbean discovered online fandom. About a week later mizbean discovered slash in the form of
amanuensis1's beautiful and tragic fic
No Happy Memories. She flitted around reading several different slash pairings and a few het ones, until she read
A Season in Hell and
After the Flood by Cassandra Claire. A Harry/Draco fangirl was born.
Various & Sundry:
I'm here for the fun. I don't take fandom that seriously. I don't get too chuffed about canon details in fics unless they are blatant errors. OOC-ness bugs me more, but even then there is a certain amount of wiggle room if the fic entertains me.
Harry Potter is my favorite character, bar none. I like that he gets whiny, is a bit of a hypocrite and has a hero complex. I sometimes like to abuse him, but in the end I always like him to come out on top.
On the other hand, I don't like to abuse Draco too much. Harry, I think, can take it. I'm not so sure Draco can.
I have to slot Snape in here, too. I adore canon!Snape even though he is bitter and hateful. Heck. I adore him because he is bitter and hateful.
Shipping bores me. I mean I ship, but the batshit craziness bores me.
Crack is love.
Weasleys are love.
So are Slytherins.
Mordred! Can you like both at the same time? I think you can!
I think JKR generally writes crappy female characters, except possibly McGonagall and Luna. And, no, I don't want to get into a wanky discussion on the matter.
I've been writing about RL more than I used to in this journal. Please scroll by if this bothers you.
About me:
I'm a 30-something graphic designer with two young kids, a husband and a cat. I'm incapable of keeping a clean house.
I love to cook, garden and go on the occasional adventure. I'll probably bore you with tales about my job hunting woes. I just purchased a digital camera and lucky you, you'll probably be in for the occasional image-heavy picspam.
Pimping: For all you Ron/Draco lovers,
ella_bane and
moshes have started a Ron/Draco drabble community.
rondracodrabble. For those of you who don't know, I really love drabbles.
cagami drew the most adorable picture,
Hey. Even if you are not a Ron/Draco shipper, it's hard not to be killed dead by the sweetness of this drawing. ♥
