So, let's see. What's going on?
First and foremost...
quiet_elegance has a new job!!!
I don't talk about it much, but he's been un or under-employed for the majority of the last 3 years because Union and Economy and Reasons.
-sort of a haul to Natick
+Steward means a bit extra money
+/- 10-4 hour days: get it done and have 3 day weekends, but a bit brutal.
-? Night shift. He started the day he found out (Monday), but so far it's not dreadful for the 3rd shift of it all. We lose some evening social and cosominating, but he's home by about 6am and leaves a bit after Mr. D. goes to bed. So, I am not lifting the parenting yoke solo, which can easily happen with first shift. But it's a physical burden to have to sleep through the day and all the crazy amount of noise in our busy neighborhood.
+ we have a new AC in the bedroom, so that sleep is more comfortable and white noise FTW.
o Definitely need to strategize my own evening plans to make sure the kid gets to bed and stays in bed (an issue last night). But I can do that.
The kid. What can I say? He's amazing.
- Working bits and pieces on potty training. I think it helps so many of his classmates are, too. We have pull ups on site now, which we mix in sometimes.
- Language! He has it. He'll say often that he "has an idea." He notices when I'm wearing "lopstick." He'll randomly ask where so-n-so is. Folks he's not seen in months, in some cases. He sings a lot. He started randomly on Take Me Out To the Ballgame, which we've never sung at home.
- Another half inch since he was measured 2 months ago. I can tell. Still all stretch. I am thankful for pants with adjustable waistbands and it being shorts season.
- We still love adventures. They're fantastic. We went to Drumlin Farm a few weeks ago and got a membership while we were there, so the promise of adventures to visit cows and chickens this summer will keep happening.
Yes, I posted this before, but it's my current favorite.
Fun projects-
The loom project at home with
asciikitty is coming along. The loom is warped (hah), and we've started in on wefting, even. Or whatever. I'm running out of time to post pictures of the work in progress, but we'll be doing this for a long time, so it'll come up again.
I am still spinning while watching TV and I'm working on my Nth shrug, this one started while in Ohio made from my wool/silk drop spindle work from last year. For those playing along at home, that predates my learning how to use a wheel at all. It's super-fine gauge and coming out looking beautifully organic in greeny-purple.
I've put my application in for Arlington Open Studios. If I get into that, I will kick into high gear with clay again, but maybe not before they say yes, as I have no internal motivation at the moment.
Work-
I've been using an old school analog to do list with little home made ticky boxes for the last week+, and that's helped me focus so much. This afternoon's been a joke because I got lost in the internet. It is also hugely helpful that I'm not stuck in a huge project right now, so it's easier to ticky-box things. The big-big happy thing of the last few days was being able to reorg some of the shelves that had until now been strictly for books, but had been slated for archive use. We've deaccessioned enough that a bit of shifting, and lo! It's populated with a collection already! Only took about 4 hours of hard labor on my part. It felt so good.
The archivists have been doing excellent work together to strengthen our infrastructure/documentation and so on. I'm glad someone has the motivation to make that happen, because I apparently have none on my own.
Health/exercise-
I'm doing the plank challenge with
asciikitty and her girlfriend. Do a plank for as long as you can. Do a stretch then a different plank. Ow. But good. I bike as much as I can and I've managed to say no to sugar 2x in the last 24 hours (donuts yesterday afternoon and ice cream this afternoon). I'll keep on that path and maybe not feel like such a lump.
TLDR: Hey, I think we're having a good week. Let's go with it!
