Got a small milkshake tonight and the young man was
working the drive thru. He said "Hi sweetheart, thanks
for worrying about me." I told him I came back specifically
to see if he was OK, told him that if there was something
he needed help with that I or someone I knew probably could
and would help him.
He told me that he was better, that he was just havin' a
bad time last night. I asked him if he was in school. He
isn't. I asked him if he wanted to continue his education
and he told me he'd always been at McDonald's and probably
was always gonna' be. I told him that if he changed his
mind about that and would like some help with maybe a job
that he could work school around, and school for that
matter, to let me know.
He smiled and thanked me for caring, again taking my hands
in his and for a moment you could see he wasn't as tough
or hard as he made out to be. Bless his heart.
I drove off thinking how blessed I was to have acquaintances
and friends I knew well enough to call up and ask them to
help this young man and sure enough of each of them to know
that they all would.
Guess I'll go thru the drive through from time to time just
to see how this young guy is faring. But, I will have to
figure out what I can get that won't expand my waistline or
my cholesterol numbers.
