Wow, I'm really late with this. Later than I've been on similar recaps in past years. Well, I've been dealing with a ton of personal drama, so I'm not surprised that updating an online journal gets pushed to the back burner.
So how was my Thanksgiving? A lot of fun, and filled with a lot of people. See, I spent it up with Justin and his family. Every few years, they have a huge Thanksgiving gathering that includes a good chunk of his extended family. While it wasn't a 'record-breaking' year size-wise, there were still quite a few folks.
So I went up on Wednesday, for obvious reasons. In lieu of my typical transit pattern (Mom dropping me off at the transit center in Escondido, me taking the Sprinter to Oceanside, then taking the Metrolink up to his area), Justin helped make plans for his best friend Tristan to pick me up in Oceanside, then drive me up to Sylmar. He was visiting folks he knew down here in San Diego, so it wouldn't be a huge hassle for him to cart me along when he went back up to the L.A. area. It didn't *quite* go off without a hitch, as Tristan was late picking me up due to traffic, but we managed to get up there before 5:30PM. Justin and I were originally going to stay with Veronica and Jeff that evening, but by the time we were both settled and ready for the evening, it was rather late. So we stayed at his place that night. So it was a nice start to the holiday weekend.
Thursday, we got up and around, got our things together, and headed to his parents' place. Even with a mild en-route music snafu that got me a bit upset at him, we were in good spirits when we got there. I greeted his parents, let Justin start introducing me to the family that was already there, and geared up for the day. While I don't 115% remember every little detail from the day, I know there was a lot of food, Wii-playing, and fun while we waited for the last meal preparations to be finished. (I also got a phone call in with my grandmother to wish her a happy Thanksgiving.) Once they were, we all settled in for dinner. There were 28 people total, apparently not a record, but still a lot of people for what this girl is used to. Justin and I stayed there that night (well, we stayed that night, Friday night, and Saturday night. Just keeping things simple here.) It was a cold night, but all the better reason to snuggle.
Friday was both fun and interesting. Justin had to work (though he was sweet enough to partially wake me so he could kiss me goodbye before he left), and I was left with his family. A small group of us went for a walk along the beach (his parents' dog in tow...she loved it!), stopped for lunch on the pier, then went back to the house. Now, because Justin had mentioned staying with Veronica and Jeff, we thought he'd be going up there after work. So I went with them back to their place, met one of their other roommates, took a nap, and played a bit of Red Dead Redemption to kill time. (Awesome game, by the by.) Then I get a call back from him to tell me we're still staying at his parents' (much to my annoyance), and he and his mom came to get me. While the time to myself was nice and helped me recharge, I was a bit annoyed that he hadn't been more clear on the staying arrangements until then. But of course the guy turns on the puppy eyes and mentions how 'cold it is out in his doghouse', so I couldn't stay mad at him for long. (It's also hard to stay mad at the guy who finally gives the music on your iPod a chance after making fun of your music preferences for the longest time.) I showed him a shell I'd found while out at the beach, and I tried to stay as sociable as I could, but I was so tired after my day that I was fading pretty quickly. We had a space in his Dad's office where we each curled up and went to sleep. (No snuggling that night, as we were both tired, but we made up for it the next morning.)
Saturday and Sunday we didn't do a lot, just stayed around there and visited, for the most part. Saturday was when I started really feeling restless, and I would slip out here and there to get some air and some head-clearing time (and later, I nipped upstairs to read), much to his chagrin. It's hard to be that involved with that many people when you aren;t used to it, and I was getting a bit over my head, hence the needs for fresh air and head-clearing. I tried to get him to see a movie, or do something else that got us out of the house, but he was content to stay, so I eventually gave up. I got through it, even though I was mentally climbing the walls at some points. Sunday night, we snagged leftovers, said goodnight to the few family members who were still there, and headed back to his place, where we shared the requisite snuggling before bed.
Not much to say about Monday. It was the usual morning train drop-off, travel back to Oceanside, then Sprinter travel to Escondido. I had to wait for a couple hours since Mom was too busy to pick me up right away, but I spent the time well at the B&N near the transit center.
So yeah. Even if things got slightly overwhelming at points, it was a good holiday weekend. I can't wait to see what Christmas has in store for us, what with it being our first Christmas and all. ;)
