Book #25: The Rebirths of Tao

The Rebirths of Tao is the third and (I think) final book in the series. I loved the first two. This one was great, but I think it's a bit less than the others. My gripe is that it picks up events 10 years after the brutal cliffhanger of the second and resolves them a little too neatly. I wanted more explanation, more backstory. It's there, but it isn't satisfying enough.

Still, it's a fun ride, and what I've come to expect from Wesley Chu's fertile imagination. The conflict between the Genjix and the Prophus has reached new heights and new battlegrounds. They have a common enemy, and yet they seek each other's elimination of necessity. The Prophus are trying to save humanity, but humanity may not want their help, even when they need it most as the Genjix play for both political and military power. Roen Tan and his family remain the central characters. His wife Jill is still my favorite, though the Prophus alien Tao of the title remains a delightful commentator. Several other fun previous characters also have roles to play. I can't say much because I don't want to give away the two big revelations of the previous books. Overall, it was worth the wait.
