I listened to this as an audiobook. It's read by Neil Gaiman himself and I do enjoy his style. This is at least my second time through this book and in some ways it was better than I remember, and in others not as well done. The characters and world building are wonderful. Mr. Vandemar and Mr. Croup are thrilling villains and get some great dialogue. Richard, the main character, is a little more of a wimpy mess than I remembered, but his innate good character shines through and makes him palatable. I also appreciate the scope of the story - as with much of Gaiman's work, there is so much more going on than meets the eye. That said, some of the similes and descriptive language were a bit overblown, even distracting. Perhaps I noticed that more because it was an audiobook.
