Fanfiction : Incurable Love Chapter 6

Ueda was seating quietly in his room when he heard someone open the door. He looked up and saw Jin enter his room.

“You know, you’re making it a habit not to knock anymore.” Ueda said chuckling at Jin’s embarrassed grin. He returned to the novel he was reading. Ueda was actually waiting for a response but it did not come. He looked at where Jin was sitting and saw him sitting sideways, murmuring, as if talking to somebody.

“Yeah, Jin. You’re becoming rude.” Kame chided, standing beside him.

“Stop scolding me, Kame.” Jin murmured quietly.

“How could I not? I miss scolding you especially when you react and do something idiotic to avoid more scolding.” Kame chuckled.

“I am so not talking to you right now, Kame.” Jin replied, pouting.

“Are you talking to someone Jin?” Ueda suddenly asked.

Jin panicked and faced his friend.

“O-of course not. I was just…I was just memorizing lines. Yeah, memorizing lines for my new drama.” Jin said, alarmed at being asked suck question.

Ueda looked at him strangely but did not question any further.

“And when I thought I’m the only one with mental disorder here.” Ueda joked.

Jin pouted as he hears Ueda chuckle and Kame snickered beside him. He glared at Kame and looked back at Ueda.

“So, have you talked to Ryo? Would he meet with me?” Ueda probed.

“Am I currently talking to Ueda?” Jin asked, surprising Ueda and himself.

“Nah, I think that pessimist is sleeping inside me right now. It’s quite hassling you know. I mean, I don’t know when they’ll surface and keep me in this dark place. It’s annoying to hear some people ask me whom they’re talking to. ” Ueda replied, putting down his novel.

“Sorry, Uebo. I did not mean to offend you.” Jin apologized.

“No need to apologize Jin. I understand. I mean with all the personalities that continue to surface and talk with you.” Ueda said, smiling softly at him.

“Ohh.” Jin responded.

“Tat-chan changed so much.” Kame said, observing the older man.

“He did.” Jin replied quietly so that Ueda would not hear him.

“I bet it’s really hard to look after him at some point.”

“It was but I’m willing to endure everything for my friends you know.” Jin said softly.

“So back to my question, did you tell Ryo about what little pessimist is asking?”

“Yeah, I did. He said meet him at the shore tomorrow at 7pm.”

“Ohh. I’ll see him then.” Ueda said.

Silence was all over the whole room, Jin and Kame both observing Ueda for any reactions. After ten minutes, Jin cannot actually take the quietness of the room and Ueda’s unresponsive state and asked,

“So, Tatsuya, want to go out? Perhaps get a latte on the café?”

Ueda looked at Jin and nodded, “Sure, just let me change.”

Jin nodded and went out of the room, Kame trailing behind him.

After ten minutes, Ueda went out of his room wearing a white tank and khaki shorts. He smiled at Jin and told him that he’s ready.

They walked towards the café and upon entering; Jin volunteered to order the meal while Ueda looked for seats.

“Good morning sir. May I take your order?” The cashier asked, smiling brightly at Jin.

“Hello, I would like to have two caramel lattes and two blueberry crepes. The other caramel lattes with additional whip cream please.” Jin said.

“Right away sir. Here’s your number. Your orders will just be delivered in your table.” the girl said.

“Thank you.” Jin replied.

He walked towards to where Ueda was sitting and sat down. Jin chatted with him for a few minutes.

“So, composed any new song lately?” Jin said knowing that the topic of music never fails to excite his friend.

Ueda nodded excitedly and proceeded to discuss about his newly composed music. Jin can’t help but think that Ueda could’ve gone really far in the industry with his talents and all but no time to sulk for that right now. Especially when it’s all too late.

As far as Jin can see, despite Ueda’s early retirement from the entertainment industry, the older man’s interest in music never wavered. When Ueda is in the mood, he writes some song and if he’s interested enough, composes music for it. Sometimes, Jin and Ueda collaborate together. Jin then suggests this to their manager who gives the proposal to the higher ups for a new single release.

Truthfully, Johnny’s Jimusho was never the same after two of KAT-TUN’s member disappeared. When Kame died, the five promised to continue the group to honor him. But when Ueda retired, the four of them did not see any point of continuing as a group. It’s as if everyone is quitting and leaving them. So in the end they all decided to go on their own separate ways.

Jin went on solo. After a year, he released a single with Yamapi for a temporary unit. Pi was glad to be working with Jin and Jin can’t help but think that Kame would be really glad for him. It was like Shuuji to Akira again but this time they called themselves PIN. They released this to promote their new drama together. Ryo should’ve been with them but Johnny pulled him out at the last minute for a new project. After this release, he continued acting and releasing singles.

Junno and Nakamaru went back to school. Junno decided to study abroad for a year and a half while Maru went to Waseda University to take Environmental Studies.

Nakamaru though, still worked in the jimusho as half of the TaNaka duo with Koki. They combined their selling points together and Johnny was amazed at how much profit the duo would bring. So for the second time, Maru and Koki debuted as a duo.

The disbanding of KAT-TUN was one of the most heartbreaking events that happened in JE history. Many fan girls reacted but the members were the most affected by this. It was their idea in the first place. They would really want to continue but like they’ve said, KAT-TUN will always be a six man group. Without the others, KAT-TUN will never be KAT-TUN. As farewell, they released their last single and to their surprise, it sold more than a million and half on its first week.

When Ueda heard the news, Ueda blamed himself for it. Jin and Maru told him that it wasn’t, that it was a decision made by all the members.  It was a heartbreaking scene to see the strongest member of KAT-TUN fall down on his knees apologizing to the both of them, then calling Koki and Junno, as he sobs. What broke their heart the most was that even when Ueda was asleep. Tears fall down from his eyes as he murmurs an apology to all because for one more time, he let them down again.

“”Jin…Jin…” Ueda said, waving his left hand in front of Jin’s face.

“You’re zoning out on me.” he said, crossing his arms over his chest.

Jin blinked and apologized. He was so lost in his own thoughts that he did not even see the waitress deliver their meal.

“So, about that song, mind singing it for me later?”

“But I don’t like to. I mean, I’m not even good at singing. I’m not really good at anything.” Ueda answered softly.

“Ueda?” Jin asked curiously.

“No, call me Tatsuya. I’ve told you that a million times before Akanishi - kun.” ‘Tatsuya replied, sipping on his latte slowly.

“Jin, is that a new personality?” Kame murmured, observing Tatsuya intently.

“I think so. This is Tatsuya. I think this pretty much sums up a meek and shy Ueda. He is very soft spoken and very optimistic. But the only thing different is that he disregards his abilities. He never boasts and usually put himself down.” Jin explained quietly so that Tatsuya would not hear him.

“There is no exact trigger for Tatsuya to surface. He pops out randomly.” Jin added.

Kame nodded. When he was in heaven, he was always observing Jin from this little crystal ball that the gods gave him. He can see the pictures clearly but sometimes the words exchanged are muffled. So he wasn’t exactly aware of the changes that Ueda undergoes.

When he first saw heaven, he practically begged the gods to let him go back and give him another chance but they were very adamant on making him stay. The youngest god comforted him though who took a liking to him and his bubbly personality when he was still alive. So as to pacify his babbling and tantrums, the god gave him his personally crystal ball that gave him some connection to the living world.

He used it to watch over KAT-TUN, his friends and of course his family.

When he was finally confronted by the deities about their mission for him, he was adamant on accepting it because they were very vague on what exactly the mission is. But when the youngest god smiled at him, nodding as if to tell him go on, he agreed.

When he learned about his mission, tears of happiness streaked down his face. He was so excited about it. And he swore to every deity that he would do his best to achieve his mission. In such way, he would be showing gratitude on uniting Jin and him together, even for just a short span of time.

“So, what should we do now?” Jin asked quietly.

“What do you mean, what should we do?” Kame replied curiously.

“I mean with Tat-chan and Ryo.” Jin replied still looking at his friend who was eating his crepe silently.

“Ohh. We’ll think about that later.” Kame replied.

Once again the three of them were enveloped by the silence. The only things that were heard were the constant chattering of the other customers and the breeze coming from the air conditioner.

Jin was about to take another sip of his latte when Kame tapped him and pointed towards the entrance of the café.

There he saw his friend, Ryo, entering the café and was heading towards the counter. He looked at Kame who winked at him in return.

Jin knew what Kame wants to do. He wants him to set the two up together. But he was not exactly sure if he can do that. I mean, he knew how vulnerable Ueda can be and how snarky Ryo is. One wrong word can shatter everything.

Jin shook his head, and Kame sighed.

“Tatsuya,” Jin suddenly called.

“Hmm?” Tatsuya replied looking up from his meal.

“Do you want to see an old friend?” Jin asked softly.

Tatsuya nodded.

“DO you want to see Ryo?” Jin asked again.

Tatsuya looked a little bit hesitant but nodded. “The other people with me might not like to be with him but…I miss Ryo.”

“You..You do?” Jin questioned, a little surprised at Tatsuya’s answer.

“Well, even before this guy was diagnosed with this illness, I have already surfaced a few times. It was weird really. There were times when he would shout insults at me, hurling hurtful words one after the other, but in the end, he’ll hug me tightly, caress me and whisper words of love in my ear. I feel so happy that even for just a little time, I was able to see that side of him. I want to talk to him, because I think that aside from the ‘real’ Tatsuya Ueda, I can also give him a calm explanation on what is happening.” Tatsuya replied delicately.

Jin nodded indicating that he indeed understood Tatsuya’s point.

“We all love him you know, but I guess the one he truly loves is the real one.” Tatsuya said with a tint of pain in his voice.

“You’re all real.” Jin pacified.

Tatsuya shook his head gently, wiping tears from his eyes with his fingers.

“No, Akanishi-kun. I’ve come to terms with the fact that all of us were just a product of some severe cause. We are not real. Ueda Tatsuya created us. And in the end, no matter what we do, he will always be the one that Ryo loves and he will be the only one that will remain. It’s painful but its reality. I’ve learned to accept it just like how you accepted that Kamenashi - kun is gone.” Tatsuya said, looking down.

“If I can do anything, I will do it just to bring the two of them together but I cannot disregard Ueda Tatsuya’s feelings. I respect him for what he has done to protect all of us that lives with him in this body. It seems surreal to talk about him as if we are two different persons when in fact, we are not. Technically speaking, we’re just a single person.” he added.

Jin and Kame looked at each other then looked at the soft-spoken man in front of them.

Another side of Tatsuya Ueda is breaking. How many more will they have to see crushed and broken before they can finally fix everything?

Jin was about to ask Tatsuya to go home when a voice interrupted him.

“Ueda, Jin…what are you two doing here?”

Jin and Tatsuya looked up. In front of them was Nishikido Ryo.

“I…Tatsuya and I went to get a meal together.” Jin answered.

“Ohh. I’ll go then.” Ryo said, turning his back when Tatsuya stopped him.

“Wait. Do…do you want to sit with us?”

Ryo looked doubtful but agreed anyways.

“I..I don’t know how long I’ll be here Jin. But at least I would really like to talk to Ryo alone.” Tatsuya said quietly.

Jin nodded understanding what Tat-chan was requesting. He looked at Kame and nodded. He then stood up and told them that he’ll be in the surfing shop nearby and proceed to leave them alone.
