Gil Genius Ages
So, I was conversing with
yanocchi last night, and the subject of the ages of the different Girl Genius characters came up. I was able to easily come up with Agatha's age, which is 18 or 19, since it was mentioned in the comic itself. I said I felt Baron Wulfenbach was probably 50 or 60. And Gil and Wooster I came up with 26 and 32 respectively.
Now that I think about it, the last two are completely off. First off...Gil.
To figure out his age, we need to figure out when he was born in comparison to Agatha. He was born sometime while the Baron mysteriously missing from Europe. How long he was gone is a mystery, however, the Baron was gone at least 2 years and 3 months as that is when the male Heterodyne was born. The child died 407 days later. And then the Heterodyne boys fought the Other for at least a year. Some time after that, the Baron returned. That would mean Klaus Wulfenbach was missing for about 4 and a half years, maybe more. When the Baron came back, Gil was a baby. Maybe three years old max.
The question now is, how old would Agatha had been? Well, as far as I can tell Agatha was born before the Baron came back, how long before, we don't know. But, it does seem as though Agatha was both Bill's and Lucrezia's child, therefore, she was probably conceived before the Other attacked. Lucrezia could have been pregnant with Agatha when the castle was attacked...perhaps she had just gotten pregnant. If that is the case, then she could have given birth about 9 months after the castle was attacked. 3 months before the earliest the Baron could have returned. Or, Lucrezia could have just given birth to Agatha the day the castle was attacked...which mean she would be at least a year old when the Baron returned.
That means, when the Baron returned, Gil was at most 3, and Agatha was 3 months to a year old.
What this all means, is that because we know Agatha is currently 18, Gil is most likely 20, maybe 22. It occurs to me, that you could even make the case that Agatha is older than Gil. I don't personally believe that, but since this is all guesses, it could easily fall to that.
Which means Wooster's age of 32 is way too high. Wooster is probably at most 4-5 years older than Gil. Too much higher and it is getting rather unlikely they would have become friends. Not impossible of course, just less likely. It would have been much harder for Wooster to justify being friends with Gil in Paris if he was 10 years older. Gil was most likely 15 or 16 when he went to Paris. And probably stayed there for a couple of years. Meaning he would have met Wooster when Gil was 15-18.
Wooster is probably not the same age as Gil. He probably joined the British Intelligence when he turned 18 or possibly when he was 16. It gets harder for me to believe he joined any younger than that. He probably was in the British Intelligence for a few years before he met Gil, since Gil mentions that his sources say Wooster is very good. So, assuming two years passed before he met Gil, that would have made him 18 or 20. Which, would mean, now that I look at my math, mean that he could be anywhere from the same age to to 5 years older than Gil. So, if Gil is 20-22 currently in the comic, that would make Wooster anywhere from 20-25. Personally, I'd place him closer to 25, but it wouldn't be much of a stretch to see him as younger than that.
So there it is. I think Agatha is 18, the Baron 50-60, Gil around 21, and Wooster 25.
So, um, yeah. I think this over too much. But hey, I had fun.
