So...I haven't updated here, or read in ages. I'm so far behind, I don't think I'll ever get caught up. June is the month my fiance is in Illinois and can come to Indiana to visit me, my once-a-year opportunity, so I'm offline most of the time, so that's when I fall behind.
Anyway, today started out with someone pounding on my door. That is never a good sign in this semi-ghetto neighborhood. Usually pounding would be some thugs trying to case the house to see if someone is home before they try to break in and rob it. This morning, though, it was the fire department because the empty house next door was on fire.
There were around five fire trucks out, blocking the street on both sides of my driveway. There was no way in hell I was going to get to work on time this morning. But there was my problem: I am out of sick and personal time for the year. All I have left is a few hours of vacation time, which has to be scheduled and approved in advance. So I got to be three hours late this morning and get an "occurrence".
As if I made up the story, just so I could be late. But policy is policy. :P
Luckily, my house suffered no damage, but the house on fire, which has been up for rent for years, seems ruined. I'm not sure if anyone could fix it or not. The roof has a big hole and all of the windows are broken. At first, I figured it was arson to get the insurance money, but the neighbor on the other side told me the detective told him that it appeared to be an electrical short from the central air conditioner, which was still running. I figured all the utilities had been turned off years ago.
Here's a
local news story with a traffic copter video, if you're interested. You can even see my house.
