...and there was an e-mail saying there will be a Quad Meeting at 2 pm.
We have these periodically to announce various things to the room (the "Quad") [There are four quads in the building, comprising four different departments/divisions that are part of our larger corporation and we all just happen to share the same building.]
Now, we just had a Quad Meeting a few weeks ago, so this seemed odd. A girl who sits diagnoally behind me had heard something, because she started digging under her desk, cleaning out her crap. This was a bit disconcerting, because she is a known packrat, and doesn't normally clean anything.
Later, I heard from some of my other coworker friends in the room that four people had been fired, and that some people from Billing (another Quad) were already let go yesterday.
At 2 pm, the Director of my division announced that there were "layoffs" company wide (worldwide) and that six people in my quad had been "laid off" -- I know that really means fired. and unless something radically changes with the economy, they'll never get hired back.
Turns out one woman was on my team, and her scorecards were low, so I'm not that surprised, but there were others who I thought were good workers, so I was surprised to hear about them.
I also found out that one of my National Account Managers was fired. I found out by accident, because there was a problem today with a job he sold, so I had to ask him about it, and he e-mailed back that he was let go today. He was a pain in the neck, and his jobs were often screwed up, but I feel bad for him.
I'm glad I'm not fired (yet), but losing six people means they'll shovel more work on all the rest of us and tell us (again) "be grateful you have a job", as they've been saying for months while they pile more shit on.
So...yeah...not a good day today. :P
