Silly meme (according to leback)

Feb 16, 2009 22:55

I don't usually do these, but since leback tagged me, and since I haven't posted anything in a while, I thought I'd actually fill this one out. :-)

The rules:

1) If you want, write your answers in your own journal/weblog, and replace any question you don't like with a new question of your own invention.

2) Tag eight people. Or not.

I'm breaking rule #2. Such is life... :-)

1. Where did your LJ handle come from?

"miyasato" is my username for all my UNIX accounts, so inertia settles in yet again...

2. Describe the room you're in.

I'm in my bedroom which is a complete and utter mess. I have piles of stuff everywhere -- on the floor, on my bed, on my desk... I suspect much of this is actually a result of not having enough storage space, but lack of time/laziness certainly plays a part. But aside from the clutter, the main pieces of furniture in the room are my bed, my dresser, a desk, and two bookshelves. Four of my six guitars sit on stands at the entryway to the room, so they would be the first things you would see upon entering. The desk sits right under the window. I usually keep the blinds closed, as sufficient light leaks through during the day, and the view of the Target store receiving area is not exactly the most inspiring landscape one could look at...

3. What was the last text message you sent and to whom did you send it?

An answer to a question from one of my former cymbal players, Ashley.

4. What are you currently reading?

Gregory Maguire's "Wicked" although I'm not finding enough time to really get through it...

5. Do you need music to study/write/work?

Usually, yes. It sometimes gets in the way when I'm trying to absorb lots of technical content when reading. If I'm writing code, I definitely need it. However, the music cannot be drum corps -- it distracts me to the point where I concentrate more on the music than what should be the target of my concentration.

6. What's the last song you recall listening to?

"The Song That Goes Like This" from the Spamalot soundtrack. :-)

7. What is your biggest obsession?

I remember asking leback one time: by definition of "obsession," is it possible to be obsessed by more than one thing at a given time? :-) I think I'm in a state of flux at the moment. Drum corps would normally be near the top of the list, but given that I'm now retiring from that and getting away from it... I don't think I have one right now...

8. Do you have a crush at the moment?

Ha. Yes, but I'm not going to reveal who it is here. leback knows -- it's the same person I've had a crush on (on and off) for the past 20 years now. (Perhaps this is a more appropriate answer for #7 instead?) :-)

9. What is your favorite movie genre?

This is somewhat difficult, given that I don't watch a whole lot of movies. But I guess I'd have to say comedies, given the movies I've listed elsewhere as my favorites -- "This is Spinal Tap", "The Princess Bride", "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"...

10. What was the last thing you ate today?

cybrenn and I went out to dinner tonight and we stopped to get gelato for dessert. Yum!

11. Name three people (living or dead, real or fictional) who helped shape who you are today.

1. My sister Lori, without whom I never would have joined my high school marching band, and therefore would never have found out about the world of drum corps.

2. Mrs. S. Moriwaki, my high school math teacher, who pretty much single-handedly convinced my parents to let me attend Stanford. I probably would have gone to UCLA instead for financial reasons if it weren't for her.

3. Dennis Michael, my manager at Stanford and Postini, for taking me under his wing as a UNIX sysadmin and for giving me a chance to leave my mark on a startup company.

12. What websites do you visit daily?

Yahoo mail, my LJ f-page, and Facebook are the pages I bring up first thing every morning when I fire up my browser.

13. What's your favorite food?

It's nearly impossible for me to narrow this down... Chicago deep-dish pizza is high on the list, as is just about any Hawaiian plate lunch. I will always have a special place for Tommy's burgers whenever I am in L.A.

14. Which languages do you wish you spoke?

The main one is Japanese so I wouldn't seem like a complete idiot if I were to ever visit Japan!

In the computer geekdom world, Python and Ruby.

15. Name a drink that you particularly enjoy.

Given that I don't drink alcohol, this probably isn't very enlightening... Maybe a Henry Weinhard's root beer? Berghoff root beer is pretty good, too.

16. Do you have a birthmark?

Not that I can think of.

17. Who was your childhood idol?

Given that I was a huge baseball fan growing up, and my favorite team was the Dodgers... It was the Dodgers' right fielder, Reggie Smith.

18. Where would you like your next holiday to be?

Probably Las Vegas. :-) I know, I need to be more creative than that...

19. What do you do to fall asleep?

Absolutely nothing. Most nights my head just needs to hit the pillow and I'm out.

20. Tell me something you love about the person who tagged you.

leback has always been a willing ear and a great sounding board whenever I've needed to get stuff off my chest. She also makes a mean lasagna. :-) I just wish I had more time to spend in the kitchen with her!
