Hello again! I’m starting to have a bad conscience, since I sort of hoped to be posting more often than this T_T. Although, I do have a valid reason; things have been hectic for me around Uni and studies, until I made the smart choice to postpone a course of mine I actually shouldn’t even be having (I haven’t finished my basic studies and shouldn’t even be allowed to have this particular, but my professor made an exception when it came to me because he was nice). So, now I’ve got time and intend on making up for the time missed in between :P!
But, OK, enough blabbing about my studies - it’s nice to realise I actually do have a life outside Uni (which my mom, who’s a workaholic and Professor in Bacteriology thinks I shouldn’t have *sigh* parents - can’t live with them, can’t live without them ^_^’). Things aren’t actually so bad at the moment (apart from the fact my boyfriend’s currently listening to Anna Abreu...don’t ask me why -___-‘). I finally managed to finish the pirate Lolita skirt I’ve put so much effort in, considering I’m quite a n00b when it comes to sewing. Luckily, however, Nette-sama a.ka., gaussianblur89, has been a real help and patiently showed me how to turn some simple patterns into a pretty skirt - since I'm such a n00b when it comes to comprehending patterns, I need to start off simple. But doesn't everyone - it's always simple, no matter what you do, start at the bottom with easy things and then progress to a more advanced level (kind of stating the obvious here, lol ^_^).That's what I'm currently doing with the sewing business, and sort of hoping I'd have the courage to give the patterns I have for a cute JSK a try. Maybe with some supervision it'll work out just fine. You have to start somewhere, and what doesn't break you down, makes you stronger ;).
Okay, my inferiority aside, I think I actually managed to fulfil my vision quite well when it came to the pirate lolita skirt. My inspiration for this particular skirt is a pretty, asymmetric JSK from Alice and the Pirates <3 (got to love that brand ^o^!)
Here's the Pic of it:
(the pic could be more accurate, but since I didn't find any stock pic online I had to scan this pic out of one of my English Gothic & Lolita Bibles, and my scanning skills aren't just top notch yet xP). If I recall right, the name of the dress was Pirate Alice Trump Pattern Jumper skirt, or that's at least what the magazine labelled it as (then again, I don't know if they just made up that name since they didn't know the original name for it...don't sue me, creators of English G&LB if you're reading this xD).
Then for comparison, my skirt here:
This skirt doesn't have a name yet, so I simply call it "My Pirate loli skirt" in lack for a better name. The skirt actually consists of two separate skirts; the asymmetric black and sax blue overskirt and a completely white underskirt with massive layers of Venice lace - I really get a Baby [the Stars Shine Bright] vbe from looking at it ^_^. I decided that it would be more practical to have the skirt separated in two instead of one (actually by Nette's suggestion), because: a.) it would really suck if the black of the overskirt bled all over the white underskirt T_T especially considering how much work and effort I put into both of these (it took me about 3hrs to gather the fabric into ruffles for the underskirt...but I blame it on distractions such as The Fast and the Furious on TV while I was sewing - it's kind of hard not to look, when the livingroom in my flat is almost completely filled by my 47" flat screen TV :P) b.) I really need a white underskirt to match with my other various loli-coordinations - it's perfect, because the majority of the lolita clohes in my wardrobe matches with white, and c.) I really wasn't sure if I'd manage to sew the white underskirt together with the overskirt without ruining the shape or otherwise making it weird/ugly.
So I opted for two skirts and am now quite satisfied with the result. The final coordination isn't actually yet finished, since it still misses a pirate stylet headdress, as seen on Japanese G&LB vol.27/ English G&LB Winter Edition cover picture:
I just fell in love with the headdress the moment I laid eyes on it!
And I totally plan o making a similiar skirt the girl in the pic is wearing :). Mitsukazu Mihara is LOVE <3 (the illustrator of the cover pic - I have her wonderful, lolita-influenced manga series "Doll" and it's absolutely wondeful <3)! And of course I need a jabot to complete the outfit (plus a million things I won't even list here right now, since I probably have to postpone finishing this coordination anyways T_T one course less at Uni doesn't unfortunately mean I have less work.
Oh, and you people who are reading this and thinking;"Oh my, she sure has a lot to say!", better get used to it :P! When I write I usually make it a bit longer than a few phrases and I do have a lot to say (everyone in my family is really talk-active and never shut up when given the opportunity - people who know me well enough knows this for a fact). Seriously, I should write more often so I could keep my posts shorter -__-'.
To entertain you all I’ve decided to spam this post with piccies of myself and my recent activities, which proves that when I’m not stressing my arse off, I’m in fact quite lazy and bored (although I have around a ton of things I should actually be doing instead than being idle ;p). Oh, and I fixed the links on the pictures, since I realised they all lead to the same picture, but just didn’t have enough time until now to fix it.
As I was writing answers to some of the serious topics at the local Lolita forum Enfant Terrible, I realised that the only one in my family apart from my boyfriend (well, my family counts him as a part of our twisted entity anyways) supporting my Lolita hobby is actually my grandmother! She finds the style interesting and pretty, probably because it is modest with its high collars, bloomers under knee-length billowing skirts and blouses under the dresses - perhaps reminiscent of her own childhood with similar elements (frilly hems, blouses and dresses with rounded collars...that’s at least what it looked like on the pictures she showed me of herself from her childhood). So, to honour the close bond we share (she’s really like a dear friend to me <3!) and our mutual fondness of Lolita, I decided to dress up accordingly in one of my dresses I had yet to try out. This is what the coordination looked like - beware! The sweetness of this Sweet Lolita coordination might give your eyes slight diabetes (and it’s not even the sweetest of all my Sweet loli coords ;P):
And this is quite late in the evening, after having walked around the town for quite a while in full lolita atire, thus the tired look I'm sporting. And I was just too lazy and late off to apply my usual dolly eyes-look with fake lashes I wear whilst dressing in lolita ^_^.
I really liked the colour combination of a darker shade of red mixed with baby pink and white. Although I absolutely love to skip around wearing cutesy pastel colours, I’ve recently really started drooling more after some simpler and more refined Mary Magdalene, Innocent World and Victorian Maiden dresses. The VM JSK I bought from Pigru is pure love ^_^<3
And the other day I was bored, so I proceeded to try to fix a hime-esque hair style, using my own hair (although it’s of a thin, fine quality, it’s really grown quite a bit) and managed quite well, so here’s a pic of that :
And yes, I’m wearing quite normal clothes, since I’d been to my classes and usually don’t wear Lolita at university otherwise than on parties. And the tired look is quite comprehensible since the picture was taken quite late (and I was having trouble making myself look presentable in the photo -_-‘ and ignore my messy kitchen in the background).
Well then, I think this is more than enough for today. I’ll try to post more pictures accordingly and rant more about my life. Feel free to leave me a comment, whether it’s something intellectual or not. Well, it’s quite late (which explains all the spelling errors I’ve missed out on) and now I’m off to bed ^_^
oyasumi nasai yo ~ take care <3
