Looking back at my old post about my first meeting with Fullmetal Alchemist, I never imagined it has been more than a year since I liked this manga. I was first introduced to this fandom when I tried to watch Fullmetal Alchemist : Brotherhood on Animax on April last year. The first episode grew my curiosity and thus, I borrowed the manga from rental.
With only 4 chapters, I immediately in love with the manga. I followed FMAB since then. I also tried to catch up the manga and watched the old series.
I never thought today will be the last time I waited for the manga update.
This chapter finally ends the journey of Fullmetal Alchemist (well, generally in the manga, but Brotherhood itself will end on 4th July on Japan, so...)
This is my thoughts toward Fullmetal Alchemist The Last Chapter, Chapter 108.
I don't know about the others, but for me, the ending is kind of rushed, although...I must say, I'm quite satisfied with all the happy endings Arakawa have given to us. The battle with Father is finally finished with an epic climax -- Greed sacrificed himself and didn't regret his decision leaving Ling's body. Finally, Ed called Hohenheim 'Father', although he is still kind of annoyed ;D To bring Alphonse back, Ed still kept his promise to him : Never use the Philosopher's Stone. Hohenheim offered himself as the 'payment', but he's rejected by Ed and Ed finally sacrificed his skill -- his alchemy skill to bring Al back. I really love how Ed settled this problem creatively.
Mrs. Bradley decided to take Pride that has become a tiny baby as her son. Oww, the new Selim is just cute! Before I read this chapter, I predicted Roy will become the new Fuhrer, but instead of him, the new Fuhrer is Grumman! What a surprise! o_O
Roy now responsible for building the new Ishval, as he had promised to Marcoh. Btw, Roy got his eyes back because Marcoh gave him a Philosopher's Stone for the payment. In other side, General Armstrong offered Scar a second chance together with Miles to build a new Ishval and also become Armstrong's new soldier. She's still as wicked as usual xD
Hohenheim finally got what he had wished for -- to die. He died in front of Trisha's graveyard. ♥ damn romantic!
2 years passed, and as the Elric brothers grew adult, they continued their journey. Al went to Xing together with Heinkel and the other Chimera guy (forgot his name) to learn Alkhaestry. While Ed went to the West to search more information about Alchemy. Before Ed left Resembool, he proposed Winry in a weird way! God, I laughed! He proposed her with scientifically (or maybe, based on the rule of 'Equivalent Exchange). Ed, Winry, congratulation!
In the last page, it is showed that Ed and Winry will have 2 child, Ling become the Emperor of Xing, Roy and Riza kept doing their job as usual, Scar working together with Miles, Havoc doing his rehabilitation and such. It's a very touching ending and tear-jerking one!
Arakawa may be have ended the story, but Fullmetal Alchemist would be an irreplaceable and unforgettable fandom for me. The Elric's brothers' story will always be in the Fans' heart.
ありがとう, 弘荒川-さん! さようなら、鋼 の錬金術師!
