help with japanese! please?
I really want to learn Japanese... without taking a class because that's not really an option for me right now. If any of you guys have any suggestions for me on the best way to go about self-teaching... myself... the language (reading/writing/speaking/whatever) please let me know. Especially if you've self-taught yourself, I'd really appreciate any info. :D
If you need to know the stage I'm at currently, I think I'm past a beginner - maybe intermediate? I know all the hiragana/katakana, some kanji and when I watch dramas I can usually get a general idea of what's being said/going on. I have a Japanese dictionary (it's pretty outdated, though), a book I bought from Amazon (Read Japanese Today: The Easy Way to Learn 400 Practical Kanji) and a Nintendo DS game called My Japanese Coach. xD These resources have helped me, but I'm kind of all over the place. I need a place to start from and keep progressing, not re-doing things I already know. It seems I'm stuck in a rut with this because I don't really know how to keep motivated. I don't know if what I'm doing already is effective or not, or what I need to do to get better. :\ I've been serious about Japanese for about five years now, but I feel like I'm not really getting anywhere...
So, again, if you guys have any suggestions or experience with this, please let me know! Or if you can lead me in the right direction, I'd be so happy! Thank you so much!
