What happened (in my opinion, based on things I've studied and read, but not things I've looked super deep into so this is really more or less a hunch) is that the Roman empire was about to collapse. It had practiced a sort of relaxed religious tolerance throughout its empire becuase it was better to control people who were happy. They used more militaristic means of conquering others to gain what they needed to support their growing empire. But it started collapsing quickly and the Emperor Constantine had to think of something quick. He got heard of this Christ guy who seemed to have started a sort of cult following based on his life teachings, because most people didn't really understand them (and still don't) but wanted to try at least. He POUNCED on this, they all got together and took pages from the Hebrew bible and various documents from the scribes in the cults, and then some other writings from this roman guy named Paul who, coming from a pagan culture that had a very strong hierachical system that matched his actual world, ( ... )

I was brought up Christian as well, and I still sing in the choir that sings in the Christmas and Easter church services and such. ..but it's never been my religion, because I refuse to believe in some divine being that demands crusades and such. And I refuse to believe in anything I can't FEEL.

I'm with you on that. Religious practice is killing our true life force. Because monks and priests are considered "far away from us", "higher" or "closer to god" than us.. ..which is bullshit, of course, but it is merely the "classes" system projected on Christianity. For ages, Church and Politics were ONE institution, so.. well like you've said before: we still haven't left the Medieval mentality behind us (T_T)

Yeah, that's the same hierarchy that is in any kind of city/state type of system. Even now we have different rules, and it's the laws and the ruling class are not called the same thing, but in truth it's the same system all over again. We're slaves, but becaues we're citizens we're at least not as low as the people being conquered for exploitation so that we stay happy. As long as we're happy, they can keep reaping our benefits without us realizing it.

I was brought up Catholic and even though I still like the beauty of the church and the music and some of the things taught there, I found that often my idea about a part in the bible differed from everyone else's, and it wasn't to be acknowledged or encouraged.

The reason why your belief in god brought you through in the past is because your thought of god is your thought of your most highest form of yourself, your thought that contains the most love for yourself and your surroundings. That's becuase you are God, and so is everything else. The gift of life is the gift that we have given to you, that I have given to you, that all of life has given to you. It's the ability to see all of god, all of everything, all of this enormous singularity, from one perspective. That is the gift of life. To experience All-That-Is from where you are, in your own unique way, and humanity is awesome because we are very close to that consciousness of Godliness. We can create and destroy and love and fear ( ... )
