I do want to see them in person. I find it really interested because even some of the tallest trees in a city area, most of the trees we ever see, go straight down into the earth...
...meaning they're quite young. There is a park near me that has a lot of very very tall old cedar trees (among many other types of trees, like cherry trees as well that have grown HUGE), but they have enormous extensive braids of roots that you can see above the soil. Those are much older trees, much more efficient at filtering and holding water and minerals in the soil, and much more efficient at filtering the air and recylcing sunlight. Yet those are so few and far between these days - it's sad!
What brought me to start looking up rain forest trees was a book called "The Celestine Prophecy" I have it on audiobook and was enchanted by the narrator's account of the nature, from grassland areas to the mountain region, then to the rain forests. The story takes place in Peru. My aunt was going to take me there when I was in my teens but she never went. SHe used to be really spiritual - into meditation, massage, yoga, herbalism, vegetarianism, and holistic natural healing.
She's the one who told me about all of the healing properties of Aloe Vera, how to take care of the plant. I was like 9 years old when she gave me a chunk of her own plant and I had that plant for years! Never forgot what she told me. But at some point she completely lost track of those pursuits and got stuck in this cycle of being unhappy and underpaid in jobs that she's not really interested in but pretends to - then she's extremely critical of others, controlling, impatient, and yet a total disorganized space cadet. It's really sad.. I wish she'd get back into this stuff, if nothing else for her own good.
omg I got way off track. So you've seen these trees? WHere?
