Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet

It is a good weekend~
We went over to my parent's place for lunch. My sis mayu made burgers and Greek style grilled vegetables. Bao had  good time and for once Yuki seemed still less unhappy about having Bao over. She actually allowed him to share a chair with her which is something she has always been very reluctant to do.

彼 headed off to work after lunch while I stuck around. Mayu and I decided to have Bao and Yuki bathed over there. She would shower them both while I would blow-dry them. They have a industrial dog fur dryer so it took only like 10-15min to get Bao fully dried compared to the 30min it takes for me to blow-dry Bao at home with my hair-dryer. lol Yuki took a longer time to dry though because her fur is very thick and full.

Kumiko is the Japanese technique of assembling wood together without using any glue or nails. YW signed us up for the class about a month back, it was originally scheduled for 22nd May, and then was postponed to yesterday. I was stupid and mixed up the dates mistaking it to be today. So when 彼 and I were walking Bao at a park, I saw alot of missed calls and msgs from her and mayu whom she contacted, worried that something had happened to me. It was already 10am, 30min passed the start of the class. I felt so bad about it I asked YW to just start the class with the teacher, but because it was just a class of 2 of us, and the teacher had plenty of time, he was ok to wait for me to arrive in another 30min. So 彼 drove me over quickly, and I arrived at 10:30. Thankful the teacher and YW were totally not angry/upset at all. They had a good chat before I reached because he was interested teaching English overseas, and YW had alot to share to him about the JET Programme.

The Kumiko class took about 2-3 hours. We were given the wood pieces with the grooves cut out already to create the frame, but everything else we have to chisel the angle and cut the length ourselves. It's my first time actually handling chisels and handsaw, which was kinda difficult to use at first because I tend to want to chisel too much or use too much strength, but one I got to the hang to it, it was really fun and therapatic shaving the wood.

I'm not sure what to do with the completed work yet. The teacher suggested using it as a coaster, as many people do, which sounds like an option too.

Mayuko is getting married today!!
I'm so happy to know that my dear friend Mayuko is getting married today. Unfortunately, we are not able to attend her wedding in Japan with the Covid situation. She was one of my bridesmaids for my wedding, and we've been closed friends since I met her during my student exchange in Hokkaido University some 18 years ago. Even though we dont always get to meet up, and only contact each other every few months, we always have so much to talk and catch up when we contact each oter. I ordered a wedding gift from Amazon Japan and had it sent directly to her and her husband, from myself, my sis, Ros and MX. Amazingly, she was the one who caught my wedding bouquet 3 years ago... and the next to get married after me. :3

Ros is coming back to Singapore later this month with her work contract in Shanghai coming to an end. We'll get to meet up after she is done with her quarantine, and then we can probably gather with MX and Skype Mayuko and find out all the details of her wedding! I'm also  looking forward to seeing her photos and videos after she is done with the wedding and all the related busyness.

Heightened Alert
We are one week to the end of Heightened Alert. So far there's been no news yet of whether the Heightened Alert may extend or not. There are still alot community cases daily, ranging from 10s to 40s everyday, and more blocks being called up for compulsory swabbing of all residents. I would hate to be in one of those blocks.

Vaccination has paced up now that Singapore has confirmed more shipments of vaccines. Vaccination registration opened for students aged 12-18 on 1st June... and my age group's (20s 30s) registration was pushed back by 2 weeks. It is now announced that my age group would be able to register from mid June. I'm totally looking forward to it and hoping to get vaccinated asap.

彼 got his first shot of Moderna no 31st May. He had mild side effects - mainly a mix of numbness and pain in his right arm (he's left-handed and took thus took the jab on the right arm) for 2 days. No fever whatsoever, so I think that's pretty good. His next jab will be on 15th July.

So I really do love the ways that Singapore government and media tries to get us to vaccinated, and stay calm in this pandemic etc. The singers featured are from a TV comedy series that ran 8 years. Every Singaporean knows them (and maybe JB and some say Batam), and the tune is catchy. There are alot of Singapore slang and Singlish in it~ I think it does get to alot of heartlanders. There are also tv commercials ran in Chinese dialect so the older Chinese generation who dont speak English/Chinese can understand the vaccination.

I enjoyed the show and really have to say I salute Hawking's wife, Jane's tenacity in handling everything that was dealt to her.

So.. how did she become obsessed with dalmatian hunting...?

Food

We bought some danggui roast duck over today for lunch because my Dad was craving for some. Its our first time trying this stall too, near our house in Yishun, and it was pretty good!

Ipoh Curry Beehoon from another foodcourt near our house. With our car, we've been able to travel around more and discovering a few eateries about 10-15min drive away, so 彼 sometimes drive out to buy some food instead of just going to our 3 usual kopitiams near our house.

Homecooked, pork and chinese cabbage Miso soup, and teriyaki cod fish~

Home cooked chicken chop and mixed vegetables and brocolli!
