Lots to Tell

I don't believe I've posted since before Mother's day. We went to my daughter's home for a BBQ. Her in-laws were there as well and we had a very nice lunch. The weather was absolutely awful but since she has a nice screened-in porch with plenty of seating, we spent the afternoon in there. At one point after eating, Julie said it was time to play a game. She handed out numbers (one to each couple) and told us that we had to guess the relationship to each. I thought it had to do with her house number but her MIL said it's a due date. Sure enough, she is expecting her first baby around mid-December. We are thrilled!

Last week, I was scheduled to go to Florida with my friend Eileen, her daughter Meaghan and my daughter Julie for a long weekend. We were flying out early on Thursday and returning on Sunday. Luckily, we were going to stay at Eileen's home. We got to the airport on time and had a nice lunch before getting ready to board. Well, after six hours of waiting and being told that the plane had mechanical difficulties, my daughter overhead someone say the flight was canceled. She quickly checked online and sure enough, that was the case. But Jet Blue still didn't announce it to us. So Meaghan ran up to the Jet Blue help desk and tried to get us on another flight. Unfortunately, it wasn't possible. They could possibly have gotten us to Florida late Friday night. We said thanks but no thanks. The good news is that we were refunded our ticket prices and were each given a $200 credit. We were never told the reason but we think it may have had something to do with the weather in our area.

So as we're leaving the airport I suggested taking a drive to Atlantic city and spending the night. We drove down and stayed at the Golden Nugget. One room was comped and the other only cost $70 (my friend is a gambler) so that was definitely a score. We went for a nice dinner and then headed over to the roulette table. The place was empty and the dealer was willing to answer any of our questions. Since I'm not a gambler, he was very helpful. By the end of the night, Julie had won close to $300 and Meaghan won about $250. It was a nice way to make the best of a crappy situation. After it was all said and done, we were glad we didn't take the tickets for the Friday departure because the weather by us was still awful and I'm sure quite a few more flight were grounded.

Work has been really busy. The weather here is finally getting warmer with temps in the 80's. It looks as though Memorial Day weekend will be a nice one in terms of weather but as we all know, that can change in an instant. Ricky and I will be headed to our house on the Jersey shore. Hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day.
