Mohinder reached up to cup the man’s face, studying his features intently. The eyes were bloodshot, the skin pale. But even in this state, Mohinder still thought him beautiful.

Sylar leaned into his touch, his breathing uneven. “Mohinder,” he whispered.

Mohinder took another step forward, then slowly leaned in. He paused before their lips met, leading Sylar to grab him roughly and crash their mouths together. The kiss was fervent and heated, with Sylar immediately sliding his tongue forward to meet Mohinder’s. Mohinder encircled his arms around Sylar’s neck, leading Sylar to slide his arms around Mohinder’s waist and pull him as close as possible.

“I’ve missed you,” Sylar breathed when they finally broke away from each other. His expression was full of longing.

“You’ve seen me every day, up until last week,” Mohinder reminded Sylar, pushing away his collar so that he could kiss the skin above his collarbone.

Sylar made a disgruntled noise that quickly changed to a pleased growl as Mohinder bit down softly on his neck. “You know that was the worst kind of torture, especially at the end.” He let out an even louder noise of contentment as Mohinder found the sensitive spot behind his ear.

“Shhh,” Mohinder whispered gently in his ear.

Sylar turned his head to capture Mohinder’s mouth once more. He was satisfied when Mohinder let out a faint “mm” as he slid his hand under the hem of Mohinder’s sweater to touch the soft skin underneath. His hand skimmed over the warm skin in slow circles. Sylar was just about to let his hand slip lower, past another hem, when a girlish scream interrupted his thought process.

“Molly!” Mohinder exclaimed, pushing Sylar away. Reluctantly, Sylar pulled back his hand from its endeavor. “What… what are you doing up?” he asked, trying to regain his composure.

“What are you doing?” she asked in a high-pitched whisper, tears beginning to fall from her eyes.

“Molly, it’s okay,” he began, kneeling down to be at her eye level. “It’s not what you think.”

She shook her head vehemently and ran to her room in tears.

“Molly!” he shouted, standing to follow her.

Sylar approached Mohinder quietly, wrapping his arms around him from behind. “I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I didn’t think we’d wake her up.” He pressed his lips softly to Mohinder’s hair. “Do you want me to come with you?”

Mohinder leaned back into Sylar’s embrace. “No,” he whispered. “I think it’s best if I go in alone.”

“Okay.” Sylar pushed Mohinder’s sweater up just enough to slide his hand one time across Mohinder’s stomach. “I’ll wait up for you,” he breathed in Mohinder’s ear, letting one finger dip down below the band of his jeans and draw a line from one hip back to the other.

Mohinder let out a shaky breath, then stepped away from Sylar’s hold.

*****

Mohinder knocked gently. “Molly? May I come in?”

“Is he gone?” she asked, her voice broken from crying.

“He’s in the living room, but I promise he won’t hurt you.”

The door opened a crack. “You promise?” she asked, one eye barely visible.

“Of course. I would never let anyone hurt you.”

Reluctantly, she opened the door to let him in. As soon as he was through the doorway, however, she closed the door and locked it.

“Explain,” she demanded, her hands on her hips. She refused to sit with him on the bed.

“Molly, you’re too young to understand most of this.” He sighed. “Do you remember the people I work for, at the Company?” She nodded. “There are a lot of bad men working there. I’ve been doing my best to keep them from doing bad things, but it’s not easy because I can’t afford to get caught for it.”

“What kind of bad things?” she asked, finally taking a seat next to him.

“They’re hurting people, experimenting on them, just because they’re special.”

“People like me?” she asked, frightened.

“Yes, Molly, but you don’t have to worry. That’s why I’m so careful, so they won’t ever get to you.”

“What does this have to do with the Boogeyman?”

“They were hurting him, badly. And no one deserves that kind of treatment, even the Boogeyman.” Mohinder scowled, staring off into space.

“Mohinder?”

“Sorry, Molly. I found out what they were doing to him, but there was nothing I could do to stop it. They assigned me to him, to make sure he was well enough to stay alive every day, and I didn’t argue. I hoped I would be able to find out something new that way. I wasn’t doing it for him, though, I was doing it because the Company was wrong.”

Molly only looked confused. “Then why…”

Mohinder placed a hand soothingly on her knee. “And then something I didn’t expect happened. One day, when I came in to check on Sylar, he was crying. And he apologized to me. For everything.” Molly gave him a skeptical look. “I know what you’re thinking, because I didn’t believe him either. But I had a way of checking. Do you know how?”

She thought for a moment, before brightening. “Matt!”

“Indeed.”

“Oh! Did you find out if he’s coming for Christmas? I miss him so much, and I made him the perfect thing.” She rambled, forgetting about her fear for a moment.

Mohinder smiled at her. “I’ll see what I can do. Do you want to hear the rest of the story?”

Molly’s smile faded, then she nodded.

“Matthew came in without Sylar knowing. Every day Sylar would tell me the same thing when I came in, and every day I gave him no response. So on that day, I did everything as usual, and then Matthew told me that everything Sylar said was true, and that he really was sorry. To be sure, he also used his ability to get Sylar to tell me the whole truth the next day.”

“And what did he say?” Molly asked, now interested in the story.

“He said the same things that he always said, and then he told me more. He said that he would never kill again. And…” He paused and looked at Molly’s interested expression. “He promised to be good,” he finished. He had to change that last part. Molly may accept most of the story, but it was too soon to tell her what Sylar really said: “I’m falling in love with you, Dr. Suresh.”

“I guess… if Matt said it was okay, then it’s probably okay. So did you tell the bad men to let him go?”

Mohinder laughed. “I wish it was that easy. No, the day that Sylar told me the whole truth was a little over two months ago. I wasn’t able to get him released until last week. He was sent to do some work for them, and he just got back tonight.”

“But what if he changes his mind?”

Mohinder shook his head. “I don’t think he will, Molly. He doesn’t have any special ability anymore, the Company saw to that. And I think that loss made him see how bad he really was.”

“Is he going to live with us?” she asked, clearly put out. Mohinder knew that she didn’t want him to take Matt’s old bedroom.

“No, not yet anyway. But he will be around a lot.”

“Will he be here for Christmas?” She made a face.

Mohinder tried to hide his smile. “Yes, he probably will.”

“I’m not making him anything,” she insisted, crossing her arms.

“Just do whatever you think is best,” he told her, kissing her forehead. “Now go to sleep, you need your rest.”

*****

“I’m falling in love with you, Dr. Suresh.”

Mohinder stopped digging in his bag. He told himself to keep going; he couldn’t show Sylar any change in behavior.

“Why did I say that?” Sylar suddenly demanded. “What did you do to me?” he asked angrily, standing up to confront Mohinder. He stumbled, however, and Mohinder hurried over to help him back into bed.

“I believe you,” Mohinder whispered. “I can tell them that whatever they’re doing is too much for your health, but that’s all I can do. At least for now.”

Sylar nodded, laying his head down and closing his eyes. As Mohinder turned to leave, Sylar grabbed his arm. “Doctor,” he said, sitting up slightly. “Thank you.”

Mohinder nodded. He left that day with several things on his mind.

*****

“How did it go?” Sylar asked, standing up from the couch.

“Well, it’s going to be a little while before she allows you to spend the night,” he informed Sylar with a smile. “But I think I’ve calmed her down, for the most part.”

“Can’t spend the night?”

“Oh, don’t give me that. No, not yet. I’ve got to put Molly first.”

“I’ve been waiting, Mohinder. It’s been months.” Sylar proved his point by snaking his hand around Mohinder’s back, into the back pocket of his jeans. He brought his body as close to Mohinder’s as he could, kissing him thoroughly. “I can be gone by the time she wakes up,” he whispered.

Mohinder exhaled slowly, trying to pull himself together. “I’m sorry, not yet. Give it at least a couple of weeks, please? For Molly?”

“For you,” Sylar clarified, obviously annoyed.

“Hey,” Mohinder began, reaching out to cup Sylar’s face in his hands again. “Come over tomorrow. Molly will be home all day; maybe you can win her over.” Sylar sighed, but nodded. Mohinder inclined his head and pressed his lips to Sylar’s in a gentle kiss. “Thank you.”

Sylar reclaimed his mouth once more in a passionate kiss. “I’m still not happy about this,” Sylar insisted as he grabbed his coat from the rack.

“Oh, and Gabriel?” Mohinder asked. “You will join us for Christmas this year, won’t you?”

Sylar couldn’t help the smile that broke out on his face. “Yeah, I’ll be here.”
