Title: Pieces of Me
Pairing: Demi Lovato/Selena Gomez
Rating/Word Count: PG/1452
Disclaimer: I do not own either Demi Lovato or Selena Gomez (they own themselves and each other), and none of the portrayed events should be taken as fact. They are fiction and never actually happened. No matter how much I wish they did. Other disclaimers are at my journal. Title from Ashlee Simpson's "Pieces of Me."
A/N: So lately I've been in love with these two being in love with each other, and I also decided I'd finally do the shuffle drabble challenge thing that's been going around. Here's the rules:
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn your music player onto random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble to each song that plays. You start when the song starts and stop when it's over. You have only the time frame of the song to finish. No lingering when it's over!
4. Do this for ten songs, then post them.
Also, this is my first completed RPF, so please be honest about whether it was good or if it sucked. I've got another in progress, but if anyone likes one of these, who knows? Maybe sometime in the future, I could flesh it out.
Summary: Ten pieces of their lives and their relationship with each other.
1. "24 Hours," Alexz Johnson
Selena had trust issues. She got burned too many times in this industry, and didn’t trust anyone. Not Miley, who wanted to be friends with her but let stupid Nick stand in the way. Not Nick, who just wanted her because she wasn’t Miley. Not any of her other friends, who just didn’t understand the pressures associated with her career. Everyone said she was too young, but if they really believed that, then why did she have such a busy schedule? She was only sixteen, but she was used to finding her own way home.
But she never really had to. Demi was always there, and she understood Hollyweird, as she liked to call it. She dug under Selena’s insecurities and spoke the truth, that she was talented, and beautiful. And that she loved her.
2. "Number One," Skye Sweetnam
Demi walked into the party and saw her boyfriend, soon to be ex-boyfriend, hanging all over one of those girls with the low cut tops and barely-there shorts. It should have devastated her, but she really was just relieved. She didn’t have to live that lie anymore, she could play her guitar in the rain without worrying what anyone thought of her. Other than Lena, who was always there, and had always told Demi she was better off without the loser. She just didn’t see it, she had been so busy trying to deny her heart that she didn’t realize that Selena was looking out for number one: Demi, and making Demi hers.
3. "Cinderella," Steven Curtis Chapman
She vaguely remembers her father, far before Barney and Demi, and how even though she was such a tomboy, her grandmother bought a tea set. She set it up and asked him to have tea with her. He never did. One time she remembers dressing in a princess dress and asking him to dance. He actually indulged her, and she stood on his feet and swayed with the dainty music. She knew, and so did he, that this moment wouldn’t last forever, only for two completely different reasons.
As she packs her bags to go to Puerto Rico, her stepfather comes in and asks her what she needs before she leaves. He hears a song and playfully asks her to dance. They do and she realizes that she missed this, and wants to stay like this forever. She knows she can’t though, and the clock strikes midnight, reminding them that it’s time to leave for the airport. He can’t help but think, looking at her, that one day she’ll have her name in lights and be gone for good.
4. "All I Need," Mat Kearney
The storm rages around them, and Demi wakes with a start. At first she thinks it’s the thunder, then looks over at Selena, sitting up with knees pulled to her chin. She rolls over and shakes Lena, who jumps with fright.
“Baby...it’s okay, I’m here. Lena, I’m here.”
“I feel like drowning, like everything’s slipping way.”
Demi frowns, knowing she doesn’t mean the storm. “Lena...”
“I’m losing you. There’s this storm, I keep dreaming of it. Everything collapses around us, and you tell me you don’t love me anymore. Once everyone finds out, we’ll lose everything.”
“Not everything Lena. People will be on our side.”
“I don’t think so. It’s all getting dark and then I guess the real thunder woke me up,” she breaks down crying.
“Lena, baby, even when it’s dark, you’re all I see. You’re all I need.”
“Really?”
“Yes, really. All I need, all I want. You.”
5. "Your Love Will Never Change," Dave Barnes
She stared out into the stars, feeling the waves lapping at her feet. Sometimes she didn’t understand her world at all. Didn’t understand how He could give poor men kingdoms, and yet the one thing she wanted she wasn’t supposed to have, or even want at all.
They tell her that He holds the world together, but she only felt hers falling apart. Demi was always there, and loved her past everything Selena put her through, everything Selena put herself through. But they’d find a way somehow. There was nothing God couldn’t do. His love would never change.
6. "Across the Universe," the Beatles
The words flowed, more intense and free than ever before. Everything she ever wanted to say, everything she couldn’t say, about her best friend. All the lies she’s told, that everything is fine, that they’re just friends. She vaguely wondered if her words really could float all the way across the universe. Maybe then they’d reach her.
Nothing would ever change, though. Her world would never change, because she’d never know that all those songs, about love and heartbreak, the ones she sings her heart out on stage, were all for her. Selena would never know, and nothing would ever change.
7. "My Sweet Time," Alexz Johnson
The tour is the best thing that’s ever happened to her, no doubt about it. She hears the songs running playback in her head constantly, and the adrenaline keeps her awake at night. She wants to call everyone, tell them everything, but it’s usually well after midnight by the time she’s able to get away.
Soon enough she gets to where she can fall asleep to the rhythm of the wheels turning underneath her, and she can’t wait until the band kicks in on the first song of her set.
She doesn’t know where the next road is going, but she knows that her dreams are gonna carry her to exactly where she wants to be. Even if she doesn’t know exactly where that is. But sometimes she’s not even aware of how much things are changing.
She hasn’t talked to Sel in a week, and suddenly the exhaustion isn’t adrenaline anymore. When she finally does get the chance to call, Sel says, “slow down, take it in.” She’ll be home again, and Sel will be waiting for her.
8. "Nothin' 'Bout Love Makes Sense," LeAnn Rimes
Nothing made sense anymore. Her emotions, so carefully guarded, were suddenly pouring out. She was so happy she cried, and she just couldn’t believe that Demi, in her flawed perfection, could ever fall for the tomboy with ripped jeans and Converse.
She was normally so strong, Demi even said so. She’s always been the strong one, yet now she’s the one going giddy insane every time Demi dances with her. Sometimes slow dances to Dave Barnes. Other times fast to Britney Spears. Selena had heard how love could make a person crazy, but even she didn’t know how this happened, how Demi could touch her heart while merely holding her hand.
9. "Fall to Pieces," Avril Lavigne
You never seem to be able to maintain eye contact for long. The videos were proof of that. You’d connect with her beautiful, playfully mischievous eyes, and have to pull away from the intensity. Often your eyes would land on her lips.
She’s the only one you can see yourself with, and not even in a sexual way. You fall to pieces just with one look, and you can’t seem to talk about it, because you just couldn’t express the depth of the love you had. But you so much want to make sure this is real, and not just something that feels good at the moment.
She takes your hand, “Demi? Everything okay? Wanna talk?”
“No,” you whisper, a happy tear making its way down your face. “Just thinking about how much I love you.”
10. "White Horse," Taylor Swift
You couldn’t believe someone could do something so cruel. You knew you hated this kid ever since he laid eyes on your best friend, since you laid eyes on him. She honestly believed that he loved her, but clearly he’s not prince charming, or else you’ve all landed in the wrong fairy tale. She’s such a dreamer, and now this idiot crushed her dreams and had the nerve to ride the white horse in to save the day.
You’d never have a white horse, you knew. If you had one at all it’d be black, and you’re not exactly a princess. You just know that she deserves better, she deserves someone that will fight for her, teach her how to fight for love.
He’s in her room right now, begging her to take him back. Suddenly he goes storming out and you find her in a heap.
“I wanted him to apologize,” she sobbed, “but he did, and it doesn’t change things. I want someone to treat me better.” You kiss her temple, then pull her into your arms.
“I know, Dem, I know. I’m here. Don’t worry, I’ll catch you.”
