I haven’t done a review for a while even though I’ve had maybe half a dozen bundles since my last one. I thought I’d have a go at the last couple. I was going to do all 10 at once but I ran out of time today so I just did the first. I’ll have the others done in a couple of days.  I’m rubbish at reviewing stuff you’ll soon find. I can only apologise.

All the songs listed were my personal favourites. I suppose I could do a track by track thing but it would take ages and you’d sooner take a rusty can to your wrists than read it so for now I’ll just do these.

This Girl Is An Emergency by enders_lament

The cover depicted a pretty girl with a red cross over one eye. Red cross - Medical - Emergency. See? That's how I saw it anyway. I may have misinterpreted somewhat. The tracklisting was written on a  funny little foldy thing I had trouble getting into. The Intro and interlude were cool. I put the interlude thing on one of my previous mixes as well. Gosh.

Gorillaz - Dare

I heard that this song was originally called ‘It’s There’ but after a multitude of takes Shaun Ryder still couldn’t pronounce it right so they changed the name of the song. I dunno how true it is. Probably not very. Good song anyway.

The Stranglers - Golden Brown

Is the best song about drugs ever ever ever? I like the jingly jangly harpsichord or whatever it is that plays that tune. Ding dingly ding ding ding etc…

London After Midnight - Sallys Song

Aren’t these a seminal goth band? This doesn’t sound very gothy. It sounds like the bit from a musical when the hero is down on his luck and mourning his ill fortune. Poor chap.

Architecture In Helskinki - The Owls Go

This is a pleasant little song along the lines of Belle & Sebastian and that sort of thing. Inoffensive little male/female dual vocals. Sounds almost like it should be on Sesame Street.A few Months ago they played in my town, I was going to go but I had to work. True story that.

Cat Power - Wonderwall

Hey listen, it’s John Peel. Strange to hear him again so unexpectedly.  I’m halfway through his Autobiography at the moment, it’s very good and you should all read it. Oh and this song is entertaining too.

When There’s Nothing Left (To Burn) by millbrook85

There was a reasonable range of stuff on this CD, a lot of fairly upbeat cheerful songs and a couple of sulky ones too. Millbrook85  you have impressively neat handwriting for a chap. I’m assuming you’re a chap. Apologies if not

Stars - Your Ex-Lover Is Dead

The first time I heard Stars was on a mixswap CD, I’d never heard of them before but I liked that song. And that album. And this song. And this album. I like Stars. The band not the shiny things up in the sky. Although I them too I suppose, never really thought about it. Shiny.

Presidents Of The Unites States Of America - Some Postman

I love how they write songs about things nobody else ever does. Probably because they’re so stupid. Spiders driving toy cars, being a tortoise, an underground city of insects and the Death Star. This song is the fairly staid tale of a postman stealing mail. This is great song and the album it’s from (Love Everybody) is arguably their best and is the perfect example of how to make GOOD brainless pop punk.

Rilo Kiley - The Frug

This song keeps cropping up on CD’s I’ve had from Mixswap again and again. I’m annoyed. Annoyed not because I don’t like it but because I can’t find it anywhere else. I’ve bought 3 of their CD since hearing this the first tiem but it’s not on any. How many CD’s do they have and which one is it on please? Ease an old man’s pain

Rufus Wainwright - Across The Universe

I quite like Rufus. Everything I’ve heard is really good and I should be buying some albums. I dunno why I haven’t really, I pick them and then put them down again. Even when they’re cheap. I feel bad.

The Bens - Just Pretend

This is from an odd little EP which is worth checking out if you like one of more of the Bens (Folds, Kweller & Lee). It sounds pretty much like you’d expect a collaboration between them to sound but that’s not always a bad thing

Sarah’s Mix (This Week…) by ssarrahh@gmail.com

Of the bunch this CD was probably the most rockingest in terms of content, do you know I could swear some of these songs actually featured ELECTRIC guitars! Lawks a mercy and other such utterances. It made for a pleasant break amongst the strumming present upon t’others

Art Brut - Good Weekend

Good upbeat song, kinda punky kinda new wave. A few months ago they played in my town. I was going to go but I had to work. True story that.

Teenage Fanclub - It’s All In My Mind

Wow this lot have been around for ages eh? What’s the album with the racing car on the front? I see that about all the time. Remember the song they did with De La Soul? That was good. This is also good. Pretty. Oooh that album was called Grand Prix. The racing car should have given it away really.

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

I like this song a lot even though its currently in any number of ads on the telly. Whenever I see them on TV it warms my heart to see that chubby folk can be famous too. And not for being chubby. I like the girl who plays tambourine.

Kings Of Leon - King Of the Rodeo

I might be wrong but isn’t this song not King Of The Rodeo as listed but actually, uh, another one. Something about a bucket maybe. I dunno. Rocks though in a jerky, Elbow flapping way.

The White Stripes - My Doorbell

I find with the White Stripes that I like some songs and hate others. I like this one even though it’s currently in any number of ads on the telly. And if someone will concur with me for cassiacat  that Meg having nice boobs IS a legitimate reason for liking the band….

Some Things Just Stick In Your Head (Folk Mix) by Chris Gorski

This CD was pretty much all acoustic folky type stuff, it was quite relaxing but I found that after a while one song began to blur into another and I got a bit bored, sorry. Individually I liked all the songs but as a whole the CD could maybe have done with a couple of bouncier songs among it to perk it up a bit. Then again it IS a folk mix so perhaps a Slayer track in the middle wouldn’t really fit with the theme so much. Not that Slayer are particularly bouncy. Bollocks. Oh, pretend I said Aqua or somebody instead.
Mike Cooper - Think She Knows Me Now

This is a really good song but I’m at a loss as to what to say about it other than it’s a chap singing a song and playing a guitar. That’ll do okay won’t it?

Linda Perhacs - Hey, Who Really Cares

This is a really good song but I’m at a loss as to what to say about it other than it’s a lady singing a song and playing a guitar. That’ll do okay won’t it?

Elliott Smith - The Biggest Lie

Again, someone else I first heard on a mixswap CD and liked a lot. I think I have all his albums now and I really like them all. Even ‘Roman Candle’. There’s something about his voice, it’s not the most powerful but there’s a strange quality to it that appeals to me. Shame he’s dead eh?

The Mountain Goats - Going To Georgia

There’s two songs by these on this CD but of the two I prefer this one. The other one is good as well though. They’ve been cropping up increasingly on Comps since I got this CD which is strange cos they sound like some of the bands my Dad listens to. He’s kicking it back old skool folk style.

Bob Dylan - With God On Our Side

While I like this song fine I can’t help but smile as I listen. That’s because a band called Half Man Half Biscuit once covered it, added their own lyrics and called it With Goth On Our Side. I love that song. It’s sounds just like this only about Goths. Unsurprisingly
