Lenscrafters is advertising a "happiness guarantee" - "if your new glasses don't make you happy, exchange them until they do."
I wear glasses. My glasses are fine - they're comfortable, not so stylish that I look like a fashion whore, but not at all out of date. With them I can see things clearly far away, which would be merely blurs without them. They're useful instrument.
They don't make me happy.
That's not their job.
If I were seriously depressed and Lenscrafters offered me a complete happiness guarantee, could I sue them?
Ah the litigious American, looking for a lawsuit everywhere.
No, I wouldn't sue them or advocate it,
but it's still absurd.
Or maybe a sign of how shallowly we define happiness.
Sunday morning, I should be getting ready for Church. Hmmm, maybe my glasses will bring me enough happiness that I don't have to go.
