conflicts of interest

Nov 30, 2005 04:24

Tonight was quite possibly my hardest radio show ever. Not because I had to pick my own music. Not because I have to ramble about it. Because callers are fucking weirdos.

Tonight I had to defend myself against someone bitching about the lack of dissident media and then someone tried to tell me that I was speeding up the recording/it was faked.

I mean, come on, fake?

Don't give me that bullshit old man.

But what really got me in a tizzy was the liberal fart who reamed me out about the lack of dissidence in media, news, and "public" radio. It's not my job to preach. It's my job to play music. It does however raise a serious internal conflict of interest. Of course I'm appalled and frustrated by the bullshit. But I do have a voice that actually can be heard. Is it my civic and social responsibility to disseminate dissidence, or even just talk about it? I've always said music first, radio/politics second, but now I question that. So now I may not avoid politics in my show, but I have to be so so so careful. I'm just not sure what to do.

::edit::

The liberal fart who called me was this guy. Jonathan Granoff -- he is the current president of the Global Security Institute, a nonprofit organization committed to the elimination of nuclear weapons. Read more - the guy is ridiculous. I'm shitting myself.
