we left wednesday night for new orleans. we planned to leave earlier in the day but gabe was cleaning john "the coug" melloncamp's windows and it took forever. gabe and i took the four hour trip to sara's house in columbus. i introduced him to the song "i'm on a boat" which quickly became our theme song for the long weekend. we left sara's house after 1 am. gabe slept in the back and sara drove while i kept her company the six hours to her parents. we got there around 8am. it was weird to see the effects of katrina so much around us. some rooftops you could read something like "lp" on them. you then realise that the other letters have just been worn off and that at one point the word had read "help". there were large abandoned buildings and then places where it looked as if nothing had ever happened.
after sleeping for a few hours we went to the childrens museum. it was everything i hoped it would be. sara's mom joined us and i am pretty sure that she even had a good time. we went to a bakery afterwords. i tried my first beignet. i was not dissapointed in the bakery as a whole but i don't think i am a fan of beignets. they taste like funnel cake to me. we went out that night to bourbon street because i was told that it was something i had to atleast see. i am also not a fan of that. we did find a couple of good bars off bourbon though. we spent time with gabe's dad who happened to be in town on buisness. the next morning we did more of the whole tourist thing and went on an airboat around the swamps and bayou. we saw alligators and other wildlife. we ate at so many good restraunts while we were there. unfortunatly there were some where i couldn't really eat much at because i don't do seafood. there was A LOT of seafood. we also decided that we couldn't leave without trying out one of the drive-thru daquiri places. what a strange place. saturday we went to the french quarter festival. we road a ferry and ate more food. our last night was spent just gabe, sara, and i. we ordered pizza, drank beer, and played around the house until we were too exhausted to do it anymore. we woke up early the next morning and made the long drive home. road trips and vacations are fun but it is always really nice to be back. i want to go back again soon because there is so much i didn't get to see. another time.
i will spare you most of the pictures and our homemade "i'm on a boat" video. haha. i was going to wait and post my friends pictures too but they are taking too long to send them to me.
at the children's museum. i am not even sure what that exhibit was.
