I was very intrigued by a friends journal entry, especially within one part. So here is Mr. Melvin's excerpt:
*The following is an excerpt from the journal of Melvin Paulino*
"I don't exactly know how I’m [going to] do this. but I know me. I will. Will is the key word man. Some people are born with everything. some people [got to] struggle. I’ve embraced my struggle. You [got to] stop making believe at some point and take charge. But you can't kid yourself. You can't count on or wait on anyone else, and you can't fool yourself into believing you're someone other than who the fuck you are. That's like playing football with a basketball uniform;".
I like this part, it shows that through perseverance we can make a difference. With self realization we can become someone else. Yet its a lot more then that isn’t it? We can run the struggle and we cam love the struggler but what are we struggling for ? Do we idolize material possessions? Do we become someone else? Its all well in good in times of peace, but what becomes of us in mass panic? Would we go the extra step and hurt someone for their possessions?
Melvin is doing his best to become someone, I believe going to work at night sleeping during the day and classes during the evening. He is doing his part to advance himself as much as possible. But when can that run end? Is it possible that he will always be struggling or maybe that he has made himself struggle? Quite possibly will he always be struggling, because he always sets himself up for the fall?
We as human being rely on other things to help us live. No matter what arguments can be made to combat this ideal. It will always be true, because frankly we always make something else our masters. Whether it be with leader, money, material objects, woman , men , religion….etc. we will always set things above our own understandings, but can we as people use this to our advantage? If were always setting something higher then ourselves, lets set the bar high and reach for it. Lets advance ourselves as mush as possible. Today you will read this as maybe just another piece, but can it be more? Look within yourself, look towards God, and something better for yourself, look to an education, not just within a school, but within yourself. The core of democracy lays within argument, so learn and argue, learn and teach , but above all learn.
