my friend S had a harry potter-themed halloween party that was super fun! thanks friend! ^___^ all guests were sorted into houses and then we played games for house points and prizes. i was in gryffindor and we ended up winning, yay! (coincidence? i think not ^_~) my friend H and i made lots of goodies to take to the party - "spiderweb brownies," halloween rice krispie treats, sugar cookies, pumpkin bread, and a new recipe for me - a really great pumpkin dip! (my obsession with pumpkin continues...)
perhaps some of the most exciting things were the blue potato chips i found(what could be more harry potter like? ^_~), apple cider (i <3 apple cider), and butterbeer!!! S bought cream soda and mixed in a little butterscotch schnapps to make butterbeer - the little bit i tasted was very sweet and really, really good. ^_^ just enough alcohol to make house elves tipsy? ^_~
halloween table spread
for the rice krispie treats we used cocoa krispies and threw some candy corn into the mix as well - they turned out very yummy, but for some reason they didn't set up at all and fell apart quite easily (which didn't affect their taste, however ^_~)
the pumpkin dip was another recipe i found at allrecipes.com - see the original recipe
here.
Pumpkin Dip
makes about 4 cups
ingredients
- 1 package fat-free cream cheese
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 15 oz. can pumpkin
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
- 1 1/2 teaspoons nutmeg
- couple of teaspoons or orange juice
directions
1. blend the cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth.
2. gradually mix in the pumpkin
3. add the spices and orange juice and mix until smooth and well blended.
4. stick it in the fridge until eating time ^_~
(i think i would cut back a little on the cinnamon next time, because it made the dip taste a little dry) - it turned out nice and spicy though. ^_^
we served it with store bought ginger snaps and yogurt covered pretzels. yum! ^_^ i was going to hollow out a small pumpkin and serve it in that for a nice presentation, but we ran out of time. it makes quite a bit of dip too, and a small pumpkin won't hold all of it (refills! or more for just me...^_~)
last but not least is a cute idea i got from a martha stewart article on ice cream socials - i took a 12x12" piece of halloween scrapbooking paper and a piece of wax paper (parchment paper works) of the same size and folded it like one of those fortune tellers we used to fold back in elementary school. you open it up to make four little cups and it makes a super cute candy dish (or ice cream topping holder, etc.)
