There is a fine young cannibal in the Bar today.

He's brought his lute with him today and is practicing by the fire.

Perfectly botherable, if you don't mind the creepy.

Hey look! A fine young not-cannibal has talked someone into finding a theremin for her.

It may work out a little better if she knew how the hell you play the damn thing but, making it make the funny sounds is interesting all by itself. She hasn't noticed that the lute player is someone she knows.

A few moments later:

"You have to do it like this, look."

He gently takes her hand and puts it in the right place.

"See?"

She blinks up at him, and then moves her the way he's showing her.

"Thanks..." she says, looking at the lute. "It's good to see you again."

"And you." He smiles slightly. "How have you been?"

[shreddinsuz]

"I've been alright. They bought me a theremin...and I think we've found the perfect apartment."

She beams up at him. "Yourself?"

[lecter_md_phd]

"I've been doing quite nicely."

He puts aside his lute and his book bag--it is just books in there, right?

"Sit down and I'll show you a few things, hmm?"

"I'm glad," she says quietly. "It's good that you are."

Blue eyes dart to the bag and back up to him.

She nods, doing as directed without a word, until she's settled.

"I appreciate you showing me how."

"You're welcome.

"This antenna controls pitch. This one controls volume. It can make sounds between the regular notes, see? Based on where your hand is."

She watches him very intently, nodding. The way her face squishes up when she's concentrating probably makes her look a little more angry than strictly necessary, but, the girl can't help it.

She moves her hands, hesitantly at first, but then more relaxed.

He'll find she's a quick learner when it comes to music.

"Theremin is easy to learn, but hard to master. There's no physical response to it--you have to play entirely by ear, if you will."

There's something inherent in her that makes it come more easily than to a lot of people. Her Gift.

Her mun is currently working the details of this Gift out for her book...as we speak.

"It's an amazing instrument," she says a little dreamy. "I'm glad to have some one show me how."

A playful, if creepy, smile. "Even the boy with a severed head in his book bag?"

She glances at the bag and then back at him.

"You're fucking with me."

[lecter_md_phd]

He laughs. "Well, it doesn't just at the moment. But I have used it that way."

There's the slightest sigh of relief.

"It wouldn't do to get your books all...bloody."

[lecter_md_phd]

"No, it wouldn't." He shrugs. "Although I've already memorized the lot of them."
