Marcus Fineman [OC] - Multidimensional Bar of Your Choice

Feb 10, 2007 22:02

Marcus is at the piano.

He's been 'here' for a while, and for a guy who's been Bound, he's taking it rather well.

He's grinning anyway.

But Marcus is also playing, a simple lilting melody that he hums along to, his throat a little sore from the cold out back. He has a little sign up, just a piece of paper that's been bent in half.

Clara walks up to read what the sign says with some measure of curiosity, head tilted to the side.

Once she reads it, she steps back to the bar and returns with a slip of paper that she sets on the piano.

Iberia: Rondena?

He pulls the piece of paper over with one hand, takes a look, and grins.

"Yeah, I can do that."

And he starts in with that grin still on his face.

She takes a seat at the spot nearest to the piano without actually being on the bench with him and folds her lands politely on her lap.

And she stays completely still for the entire piece.

He looks over to her curiously when he finishes.

When he's finished she claps politely and gives him a bright smile.

She's seventeen, she's canon ... so she doesn't speak just yet.

He quirks his head at her before signing out a short message.

Her family never bothered to teach her to sign - it was the late forties, after all.

She draws out a slip of paper from the bar and scribbles something down in elegant handwriting.

I don't understand that.

He quirks his head.

"But you can understand me?"

She nods. Clara's English is very good as far as the written language goes, along with her understanding of it.

It's just that she doesn't speak it out loud.

Of course.

He holds up his hands.

"I just wanted to check. Sorry. I know I'm better with written stuff than speaking stuff most of the time."

People don't think before they speak most of the time. It's irritating.

She's not very easy to offend.

He blushes pink.

"I don't think at all. There's no filter between the brain and the mouth, but I'm lucky because the only thing that seems to come out of it is babble and geekiness and, like, really silly stuff. If, you know, any of that offends you, you just lemme know, cool?"

That gets him another smile.

I suppose so.

Clara is possibly the least verbose teenager in the history of man, but her body language is far more developed. She crosses her legs and shifts to face the bar again, but it isn't because she's going to ignore him - she wants to see if he'll come and sit next to her instead of sitting at the piano.

He looks at her, and then the piano, and then at her again before getting up and tapping the counter next to her.

"May I?"

She nods absently.

If you'd like. I suppose I should go home at some point, but...

He settles at the stool.

"Home? Are you stuck here or..."
