Me, Invasion of the Muns, Panfandom Bar

Jul 10, 2009 22:39

The door opens and a familiar face walks in, blinking tiredly.  Karen looks around, surprised to see the place considering it's been aaaages since she was there.

Yawning, she heads over to one of the wingback chairs by the fire and drops her turquoise messenger bag on the floor.  Bending over, she digs out a sock in progress, a couple fountain pens ( Read more... )

Tiwa watches her unload the bag and peers over a couch arm with a grin,

"What are you writing?"

Karen snaps the notebook shut with ninja-like reflexes, particularly as there are a couple names on the page that Tiwa would recognise. Luckily, in said fic, Jack and Carl aren't doing anything that might possibly break Tiwa's brain a little. Yet.

"Not much at the moment. I'm trying to get my brain started at the moment, but it doesn't really want to."

...Yeah, not telling Tiwa it's Jack/Carl slash, kthnx. And the Jack/James Bond slash in there probably isn't a much better one to mention.

"Meh, it'll happen when my brain wants it to. Sometimes it helps if I just work on something else for a while," she says, putting down the notebook and capping her pen before picking up the sock.

The Front Door opens.

" -- no, I know it's been a year, my god, with all the coverage, do they think I could forget?"

The blonde in the pencil skirt stands in the doorway, torn between wanting to step inside and needing to finish her workday as she continues the conversation on her cell phone.

"No, I'm sorry -- you didn't deserve that. Just ... the statement's the same. All questions will be handled through PR, I don't care which paper or network they're with. Call Carolyn, and -- "

A pause; her shoulders visibly relax as she nods.

"Exactly. Thanks, Dan."

She flips shut the phone and lets out a deep breath before crossing the bar and sinking into an overstuffed armchair near the fire.

Her eyes flick from the woman with the notebook to the mojito, and back to the woman.

"That," Kate says with a tired smile, "looks like a great idea."

Karen looks up and nearly squeals. *Nearly*. Every day she works at the library her poker face gets that much better, and every time she comes into Milliways she gets a little better at applying it to the "OMG SQUEE!" situations instead of just the "Oh God, you're a moron" ones.

"Booze is the perfect solution to a long day, and sweet, fruity booze is even better," she says, grinning as she waves down a waitrat.

She returns the grin in kind.

"A woman after my own heart."

Once she's ordered a mojito for herself, she slips her feet from her Manolos and wiggles her toes with a quiet, relieved sigh.

"Kate Warner, Los Angeles, 2006. And my manners are much better than this, most of the time -- I usually introduce myself before taking off my shoes."

"Karen [Last Name], Niagara, Ontario, 2009. And don't worry about it, you look like you've had a long day. The shoes coming off was probably more important."
