Echo may not remember Freya, but Freya remembers Echo. And Freya is looking at Echo from over her book.

"Are you okay?"

She can tell, of course, that the answer will be no, but Echo's thoughts are... weird.

Echo's thoughts, much like Echo, are

("Now you say it." "I know how to get us out of here." why don't you why don't you Echo has a medical condition I try to why don't you go for a swim? the door's broken now you say it blue skies I know how)

going in circles.

She starts a little when Freya speaks to her; her stride breaks, and she comes to a halt.

"Something's missing."

"The door's broken," she repeats.

She's... confirming it, affirming it. Echo is... special. "Are you Bound?"

She nods. "We can't go home."

"Topher's here too. The door broke."

"Topher," she repeats. "He's your..."

(are you ready for your treatment?)

"He takes care of us."

"Us?"

"In the House. I'm the only one here."

They've had this conversation before, unfortunately.

"Where are you from? Before the House?"

Echo blinks -- frowns.

(There's a mountain. When I'm there, my name is something else.)

The anxious tension starts to filter into her posture again.

"I . . ."

She feels bad about this, but she's obviously triggering something.

"You what?"

"I don't -- I don't -- know, I--"

Why doesn't she know?

Why should she know?

Maybe she's pushing it too far. But-

Freya rests a hand on Echo's arm. Gently: "Do you have a family?"

She closes her eyes, flinching.

Images, thoughts not quite fully formed enough to be memories, flash through her mind: dozens of brothers, sisters, pairs of parents, lovers, a daughter, a son.

She shakes her head -- not exactly answering Freya's question; more like she's trying to clear her head.
