Milliways-Future!Verse-Sara Sidle

New York changes, yet never really seems to at the same time.

The Building has long since been renovated, but is unmistakable.

"No, Hendrix, I'm not going to your scene and doing your work for you. How the hell'd you get to be a Level Two anyway?" Sara clicks her phone shut with a satisfied grin, returning her attention to a physics journal.

There's a knock on the door, then a pause, then another knock. Roger can be insistant sometimes.

"Come in, Roger." At least he remembered to knock this time. Sara sits up, putting her magazine aside.

"I probably shouldn't ask how you knew it was me." Roger comes in, trying to look calm, but mostly looking a bit giddy. "Hey, Mom. People being stupid again?"

"You're the only one who knocks that way. Simple observation, dear. As for stupid people, when are they not?" She tilts her head, studying his expression. "All right--what've you and/or your sisters done now?"

"This actually has nothing to do with Angie and Laura!" Roger facepalms. "I stopped being a tattletale when I was five, mom."

"Does this have to do with Josh?" Reasonable question now that the other usual suspects have been cleared, so to speak.

"Um, yes?" Roger's never known of a time when either of his parents turned down a reasonable request without a also-reasonable answer. Roger is just worried that this won't be a resonable request. "His parents are being idiots, Mom, and he wants to move out, and I'd like him to move in here." There. He's said it.

"Jackasses. Of course he can." Mom mode crossed with CSI mode. Josh's parents better ph34r.

Roger grins. "Thanks, Mom. Um. He said that they might be giving him crap if he gets his stuff alone, so I kinda already talked Adam, Quin, and Jon into helping us. I haven't found Angie or Laura to ask."

"I'll go with you." Her tone leaves no room for argument. "Josh knows he won't be paying rent, right?"

"Thanks, Mom." He pauses, and a grin crosses his face. "Yup. Only after a bit of a lecture, though." Roger smirks. "Gotta make everyone realize it's a four-letter-word around here."

"True, but this would be one of the only places where that's the case," she points out. "When does he want to move in? If you can get hold of him, we can get him over here tonight." Her mind has shifted, thinking over who will need to be contacted and security to be updated. "Reminds me -- you might want to call your dad and let him know about this. He won't mind--he pretty much figured you'd have him in here before the month was out."

"I'm sure he'd be up to coming whenever, really." Roger grins. "I can phone him." Pause. "After I phone Dad. Where is he, by the way? Didn't he have some meeting?" Not that Roger minds interrupting Holy Wood-esque meetings.

"If you count telling Time-Warner to fuck off and die a meeting, yes, he does. He'd probably be glad for an excuse to cut it short and give Joanne the chance to present her lawsuit." She tosses him her phone. "Speed dial one."

"Oh, right. I forgot that was today." Roger smirks. "He doesn't need that long anyway."

Catching the phone, he dials. "Hey Dad." ... "No, everything's fine." ... "No, I don't have a pressing excuse for you to come home. Just letting you know that Josh..." ... "Yeah, he's moving in." ... "Oh, come on, Dad, I'm not -that- bad. Give me a break here." ... "Yes, fine." ... "Of course I did. Duh. That's the way around here, isn't it?" ... "Give 'em hell, Dad. I'll tell Mom you love her."

He hangs up. "To no one's surprise, he doesn't care."

"I thought so, but he needed to know. Call Josh and have him meet us outside of his parents' place--I'll call the others."
