Rose Toren // Dark Tower Millicanon OC // Bar-place

Timestamp or no, it's Saturday, December 13th--two weeks after this and this--when Rose's door opens into Milliways unexpectedly. She doesn't hesitate a moment, just dips to grab her purse from her bedroom floor and heads inside. She's never gotten a spontaneous door, and she doesn't intend to waste it ( Read more... )

Kels has been here for an hour or so, playing the piano (a very usual sort of Kelsi state of affairs). V. fashionable clothing choices for the day include sneakers, brown cargo pants, beige shirt, brown vest, and hat from icon. In addition, there are many scribbled-upon sheets of music strewn across the piano and bench, and a half-full cup of cold tea.

Said Kelsi is distracted with piano-playing ("O Holy Night" with a walking blues line; it's the holiays, yo), and doesn't notice the newcomer right away.

Rose noticed Kelsi the minute she came in, for multiple reasons. Because she's been trained to take in a whole room in a single glance; because she would've turned back around if Kelsi wasn't there; because she heard the piano and hoped.

She gets a fresh cup of tea from the bar--easy enough to ask Bar for 'whatever Kelsi got before'--and approaches, moving quietly not out of any desire to sneak up on her but because she's listening.

If you're not paying attention, it sounds like your average awesomesauce jazz jam. It's not until your ear has a moment to get used to it that it resolves into the Christmas carol.

And, because it's a work-in-progress and she's mostly doing this by ear, there are moments when the two do not mash. Such moments are quickly resolved with a slightly embarrassed sigh and backtracking by a couple beats.

...Unfortunately, the tiny piano genius is still lost in her own world, and the sneaky sneakiness is not helping Rose be noticed.

Rose is paying attention.

She's not a great singer; certainly not by the standards of Kelsi's musical canonworld. But she had a couple years of choir. She waits until Kelsi seems to hit a smooth patch, then first mouths the words, and then sings audibly as she's confident in the shifting patterns of the song:

"...A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks, a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees, O hear, the angel voices..."

Her singing voice is lower than her speaking voice, and a little unsteady.

The moment she steps inside, she's being watched by someone. The golden haired teen leaning on the bar has a keen eye when it comes to finding what he wants, after all, and right now he's keeping his pale, unwavering gaze on her. He'll remember his manners in a minute.

"Hey there," he eventually greets, all smiles and warmth that may or may not be entirely acted out. Either way, Rose has herself a highly fashionably dressed teen in shades of blue and purple (with a fedora to match, naturally), who's already working the charm.

Things Rose has finished with in the last two weeks: being worried about what boys think.

"Hi," she says. It's not unfriendly, but there's no rush of insecurity at being seen in OMG HER PJS. Her attention is at least 60% on the piano.

Ryan's used to never having peoples full attention. He's kind of dealt with that his entire life, and if there's one thing he learned from it, it's to just keep going anyway.

"I take it this isn't your first time. I'm Ryan, also a victim of being caught in my PJs before."

She doesn't mean to be rude, just... Kelsi.

She apparently seems to focus on him, now, and nods, smiling. "Okay. Then please take it on faith that I haunt the Galleria on the regular and this outfit is a sad mistake of fate."

"I'm Rose."
