It's too cold to go outside, too awkward to stay upstairs... so Max is sitting in a chair near the fire, reading.
Thanksgiving is tomorrow. Thanksgiving with Ben and Alex (Ben's daughter) and Emily (Ben's mother) and Dinah (Ben's friend) and Max is kind of dreading it. Not because he doesn't think it will be nice, but because he's kind of the odd man out and because Alex doesn't seem to like... well, anything very much and because he knows he'll be distracted by the voice in the back of his head yelling "DON'T MAKE AN ASS OUT OF YOURSELF!"
It's a very loud voice.
Max is shushing it by reading and deeply analyzing the words of Dr. Seuss.
